Winter Wonders - The Adult Snow Day

Yesterday, we had a red sky in the morning and a forecast for 10-14 inches of snow.

This morning, this is what I woke up to.

Almost exactly a foot (30.48 cm) of snow.

About 1/2 hour later, the county declared a state of emergency (mainly meaning "no unnecessary travel") so where I work is closed for now.  I'll probably be called into work later today, but right now, I am enjoying my unexpected adult snow day.  This doesn't happen too many times in my job.

I enjoyed the transition from nighttime to day.

A neighborhood scene - dark, but lit with snow and streetlights. (None of these photos, incidentally, have been manipulated.  All pure iPhone.)
...to near sunrise, looking at my unplowed street.
A view from my dark backyard.
Dark trees.

And, near sunrise (I love this lighting).
My backyard.  Want to sit out there? (That chair in the upper right corner is plastic, but what you are seeing is all snow.)

And finally, one more picture (taken around 9am) showing the deadly beauty of this storm, and, again, the changing light.

The plows have now gone through, but all the snow thrown up is now blocking the driveway and walkway to the street.  As we grow older, we become more concerned about the effort needed to shovel all this.  And they keep running the plows, so we don't dare touch the piles until we think they won't come through again.  (Thank you, spouse, for your offer to shovel.)

I hate winter, but at least it's been a while since we've had to worry about those large snowpiles.

Soon enough, back to work.

  2. We have the same weather here in Toronto! I can barely see out of my office window. I don't hate winter because it can be really beautiful however I am ready for the snow and especially the cold to be gone! Thanks Wendy
