Tattoo Me Tattoo You

I was fascinated, a couple of days ago, to read a post by a blogger, Carla, who has celebrated her love of Dr. Seuss books by having several Dr. Seuss-themed tattoos.  She blogged how explaining her visible tattoos to others made them relive their childhoods.

Turns out she is far from the only person who has a Dr. Seuss inspired tattoo.

I've blogged a couple of times about how all of those who write wish to be the author who changes the world.  Books have that power.

Which made me think of tattoos.  I do not have any.  Not one. (And I so wish I could write that in Dr. Seuss-type verse.  No, I am not going to try.)  I know people whose only tattoos came from their need for radiation treatment.

In fact, I've never had a piercing.  Not one.  Not even on my ears.  Not even the so-called traditional one so I could wear earrings.  Not ever.  I've not regretted it, either.

Why?  A number of reasons.

So, today's question to my readers is this:  Do you have any tattoos or piercings?  And if so, did you end up loving them, or regretting them? (Temporary tattoos don't count.)

Call it an informal poll.  I look forward to the results.

The results should be interesting.

  1. I pierced my ears in college and have lots of earrings. No tattoos. My dad had one of a heart on his arm with the word 'mom' and I always thought it was strange. Have yet to understand why folks do it.

    1. There are various reasons for decorating your body in a permanent way- I guess it has just never appealed to me.

  2. I'll be first cab off the rank :) I have two tattoos - one is a daughter of the air from the original Little Mermaid (not Disney's) and the other is the word "blessed" I have no regrets at all but probably won't get another in the near future. I had 3 piercings in each ear but went back to just one after a while. Looking forward to what others have to say x

    1. Thank you for sharing. I see a lot of tattoo removal ads in local alternative papers - there must be a reason.

  3. Well, being a traditional Jew, that answers the question.
    They are verboten!
i know that my middle daughter sports (she got it when she was in college) a tiny speck.
And, all the gals have pierced ears. My mom wanted them to have same- since she never did and could only buy custom made earrings...

    1. Just a question out of curiosity - what about the tattoos before radiation treatment? I do know someone raised as Orthodox who had to have radiation treatment for prostate cancer, and did get the tattooed dots.

  4. The only piercing I have are my ears. Never liked or wanted a tatoo. However, my daughter has a tatoo under her heart of her baby's heart beat in utereo - which I think is awesome.

  5. I have no tattoos, but currently have 10 piercings (nine in my ears and one in my nose) and no regrets! In fact, I'm getting close to being ready for the next one... just have to decide where. :)

    1. That's good to know, because some tattoo fading services here (upstate New York) target ads to adults who regret the tattoos they got "when drunk", "because you aren't married to that person anymore", "because you regret it". Those ads, in a way, are so sad to read.

  7. I just have the ear piercings. Never saw the point of a tattoo. There is nothing that I want permanently affixed to my body.

I once had a student ask me what I personally felt about tattoos. And I said something similar to what I wrote here. She got so upset, justifying her own tattoos. I never said anything against hers, and never would.

  9. No tattoos, although all my adult kids (one son, three daughters) all have tasteful ones that have sentimental meanings (2 of my daughters have matching ones with roses and angels).

I do have pierced ears, two holes in each. I've always liked earrings since I was allowed to get my ears pierced as a teenager. I have had long hair most of my adult life until a few years ago; now I have a short hairstyle that really accentuates the earrings.

  10. I have piercing in my ears ..... a traditional. I love wearing many types of earrings. One couple of my relatives have their names tattooed on each others hands. I love to have like that.

  12. O I have a tattoo.. And I was so paranoid before getting one and nervous at the same time. I knew it would hurt, but it didn't.. at all!! Can you believe it?

I love my tattoo.. You can read about my experience here:

I'm sure, it will ease you and make you feel better if you're planning for one :)

    Cheers

  13. No tattoos, just the evidence of teenage rebellion and dots that were multiple piercings in my ears. Perfect for irritating my conservative parents and the nuns at school ;)
