Summer Ramblings - The First Touches of Fall

It's the last post of summer 2017.

The weather, after a wet summer, has suddenly turned sunny and warm this September.  We bask in a late summer "warm wave" while the author of a blog I read often, who lives in Alberta, experiences snow showers.
The goldenrod is winding down (complete with my shadow).

A daylily in my yard that is suddenly reblooming (it did last year, too).

Some random pink flowers in a Binghamton, New York front yard.  I should know what these are, but I don't.

And yet...fall looms.  Some trees are already turning color, their leaves falling and coloring the sidewalks.

Mums are everywhere.

Goodbye, summer.  Goodbye (almost) to eating lunch outside.
Goodbye to butterflies.

On Friday, we will welcome fall, and next Wednesday, new seasonal features intermixed, perhaps with more "fall prevention" (as in humans falling) features.

  1. Those flowers look pretty and the trees do look beautiful despite the leaves turning colour! I love walking on sidewalks that are strewn with the fallen leaves that sound 'crispy' as we step on them! :)

  3. Yes, after experiencing a few blissful days of Autumn weather, we now expect our temperatures to exceed 90. Perfect for those synagogues with less than perfect air conditioning- and housing five to 10 times their normal attendees...

  6. Autumn is my favorite season, and I'm already missing it this year. My husband and I moved to Venice, FL in June, and although I LOVE it here, I'm missing autumn in Georgia right now. We would take many trips to the mountains in fall to enjoy the change in foliage (I grew up in New Hampshire and GA can't compare, but it was good in a pinch), the scents and activities of fall. I won't need my boots and sweaters this year either. And whenever I whine about it, I remember that I'm only 15 minutes from the beach. lol

  7. Sigh!

Starting to see some touches of gold in the trees in Brooklyn, and the cosmos in my garden are winding down after a glorious explosion. Usually I try to just have one cosmos plant but this year the veggies didn't really happen, weather was too weird, so I let the cosmos do what they wanted - and they were very happy!
