And the Band Played On - RIP Dennis Edwards #MusicMoveMe

Another sad week for the music world, with the death of Dennis Edwards, one of the several lead singers of The Temptations.

I found this tribute to Dennis Edwards on You Tube.  Here are some of my favorite songs from his time as lead singer.

Temptations - Ball of Confusion.  Now, some 50 years later, this song is still so relevant.  "And the band played on....so round and around we go, where the world is headed, nobody knows...."

Temptations, from 1969, the "psychedelic era" -Psychedelic Shack (heard here, an extended version).

Got 11 minutes?  Even if you don't, please take a listen to this version of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone"  This is also an extended version, one I had never heard before researching Dennis Edward's music today. What an arrangement! Lots more music, and some of the most powerful lyrics to ever appear in modern music.

I could fill this post up with hours of The Temptations, but I'd better call it a day now.  RIP Dennis Edwards.

And now, a little about Music Moves Me (aka "4M").

The Head 4M'er is XmasDolly.  Her co-4Mers are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice, and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   And last but certainly not least, Cathy from Curious as a Cathy.

See you next week, same time, same place!

  1. Alana,

I didn't hear this mews but then again there's a lot that escapes me. For instance, I shared "I'm Your Weatherman" on Friday in my Friday Sillies Groundhog Day humor and found out this morning that Harold Ramis (he wrote the song) died in 2014. The talent of yesteryear is slipping away from us like a blink of an eye. Unless things change then the entertainment world is going to be a bleak place with so little talent. Great tribute. I always liked the Temptations. Thanks for dancing with the 4M gang, my friend!

  2. Some great choices here! Definitely my favorites from the Temps. I guess all the original members have passed on now; I'm glad they left the music behind...

  4. I was a BIG fan of the Temps! And, have been lucky enough to have enjoyed them live on multiple occasions. And, Ball of Confusion is just (very unfortunately) as relevant today as it was the day they first sang it.

  6. So sad. It seems like we're losing more and more artists again this year. And more from that era.

  7. Wow, that's right I heard about that. Thanks so much for the tribute for a great group. Love all their tunes. Papa was a rolling stone was definitely my favorite. I heard this version before. They use to play this version at this nightclub I went to in my youth just so everyone would stay up dancin'!!! Great tune to jive too! Thanks for bringing back some really cool memories! Thanks for the dance too my friend! Have a great one!

  9. I heard the temptations as an opening act a couple of times growing up and they always put on a good show. Of course I can't remember who was the main act. Sad how relevant 'Ball of Confusion' still is today.

  10. Hi Alana,
I love the Temptations too and like you, could listen for days. Love the songs you chose for your Dennis Edwards tribute, especially Ball of Confusion. Papa Was a Rolling Stone has always been a favorite of mine too...
