Coloring Your World - #MusicMovesMe

Today, on Music Moves Me, we are asked to COLOR our readers with song.

But first - who are the 4Mers, or the Music Moves Me folks?

The Head 4M'er is XmasDolly.  Her co-4Mers are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice, and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   And last but certainly not least, Cathy from Curious as a Cathy.
Each week we have a theme (unless it is a freebie week, during which we can blog about anything musical)

So, let's get going!

How about some color in our world?  From the Chicago "Chicago II" album, "Colour my World" featuring the late Terry Kath.

True Colors by Cyndi Lauper, brings hope in hard times.

Yellow Brick Road by one of my favorite performers, Elton John.  I don't go to many concerts (I am not a fan of crowds and loud, echoing music) but I could have wished to have gone to one of his.

Yellow Submarine by the Beatles - a fun song and video.

Speaking of fun videos, the Rolling Stones "She's a Rainbow" from 1967 provides us with a psychedelic vibe.  (The Stones made several other "color" hits, including "Brown Sugar" and "Paint It, Black".

The incomparable Elvis Presley covered a song "Blue Suede Shoes", written in 1955 by Carl Perkins.  Instead of their versions, I am featuring another cover, performed by Buddy Holly.
Soundgarden's (and Audioslave's) Chris Cornell performs Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun".

Finally, a small deviation from the theme - this song is without color in the title or lyrics but the group has a color word in it,.  Hence, "Under the Bridge" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.  This is one song I can't help singing along with, although the lyrics themselves represent the suffering of a former drug user and recollections of the depths he sunk into trying to get a heroin fix in a Los Angeles Park.

What a colorful world we have....

  1. Alana,

It's great seeing you on the dance floor with your "Color Me with Mewsic" song picks. Some of which are new-to-me. Your last selection is interesting especially since last week my first cousin died from drug related problems. I didn't know him very well but it's sad the effects chemical dependency has on an individual. Nothing good ever comes from experimenting with drugs with such horror stories. On a positive note, "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" is not only a classic but brings back some fond feelings from yesteryear. Have a colorific week, dear friend!

  2. So, the first 'color' song that popped into my head was 'Deep Purple'. Guess I am showing my age, lol.

  3. Some old favorites there, some forgotten, some indelibly imprinted on my memory.
Thanks for the share. Even the melancholic Under the Bridge...

  6. Good songs! I still prefer Carl Perkins's "Blue Suede Shoes," but Buddy doesn't embarrass himself here.

  13. It's too late in the calendar for your beautiful snow pictures. The bird prints are cool . . . unless you are the little, frozen fella who made the tracts. Great minds think alike with Color My World. Great picks for the color theme. The Rolling Stones video was interesting. I'm surprised I hadn't heard that one before. I don't remember Black Hole, either. Nice touch at the end. I love the Red Hot Chili Peppers! Thanks for rocking.

  16. Hey Alana,
Happy Friday! Where the heck did the week go?? Mine has been out of control with Spring Break dogs... But it's winding down now. I'm ready for a nap! :)

I like how you started out with songs that have "color" in the title (both good ones too!) and then moved to a specific color and then jumped into a full-blown rainbow.
Re: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road: Love that song and featured it last week in my Yellow edition. Elton John has always been one of my favorites and fortunately I was able to see him in concert twice, both incredible. What a phenomenal artist he is. Sad that he's retiring.

I have not heard that Stones song in a long time! Was great to hear it again. I like the video you chose for "She's a Rainbow" -- so colorful!

I love Elvis' "Blue Suede Shoes" and never heard Buddy Holly's version. That was fun. Thanks for presenting it.
"Black Hole Sun" is a good song; gave me a sad feeling though, watching Chris Cornell perform it. Such a great singer and he had some really rough times with depression and addiction. The number of touching tributes after his tragic death spoke volumes about how well liked and respected he was, as a singer, as a songwriter, as a person.

And your ending song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is one of my favs. Thanks for telling us that the lyrics are about the depth of addiction and for providing the link. I read the article and it's deep and very telling.

Your last line: "What a colorful world we have." INDEED!
Thanks for a great post Alana! Have a good weekend. "See" you next week...
