Kopsick #AtoZChallenge #Blogboost

North Shore Park in St. Petersburg park is a large waterfront park in Northeastern St. Petersburg.

On North Shore Drive you will find the Gizella Kopsick Palm Arboretum.  Free to the public, it features some 500 palms and cycads.

To me, the palm tree is the heart (no pun intended) of Florida - nothing says "Florida" like the palm tree.

This arboretum was once a golf course. Part of it is now the home of what started as a private collection of palm trees.  Gizella Kopsick helped to fund the park and its first 60 plants.  It was dedicated on her 100th birthday, in 1977.

Alas, Gizella Kopsick died on July 4, 1980, at the age of 103.
Here are some highlights of the park.

I could look at these plants all day.
It makes me feel so sunny and warm.

It makes me want to sing songs of the tropics.

  3. it looks beautiful. I love going to gardens and other places to see flowers and plants. It's so relaxing. I agree about the palms in California although ours are starting to die because of the weird weather.

  5. Those short palms remind me of a plant we had in front of our house that grew onto the porch. Those fronds are sharp! Not a friendly plant.

Palm trees are everywhere around here. Looks like a nice spot, but I doubt I'd go searching it out. It would be like me going to a firework show--boring to me.

  6. I am a palm tree fanatic, which isn’t easy here in the Midwest! But my two big trees manage to survive in the basement under flouescent light until May and the return of deck time. The just make me happy!

  9. I too, think of Palms in association with Florida. What a beautiful park with so many different palm plants. We have them along the Texas coast and transplanted ones in West Texas.
