A Flyover #SkywatchFriday #BlogBoost

No fireworks to show you today.  No beautiful sky pictures.  It has been hot, and I have tried to stay indoors.

But I will celebrate the 4th of July a different way - with a flyover.

To be exact, a goose flyover, near the former BAE Plant in Johnson City, New York.  Now an expanse of grasslands, due to a flood in September of 2011, the geese have made it their home.

On June 7, they flew over me, then back again.  They did it several times.  I didn't capture the first couple of flyovers, but then my brain snapped into gear.  I grabbed my iPhone out of my purse and started to click as they flew back and forth several more times.

I don't know why they did it, but it did make for a nice #Skywatch.

While you are at it, why not visit #SkywatchFriday and click on other wonderful pictures of the sky? You may even see some fireworks.

  1. Just the other day, I was mesmerized by a flock of geese by the Potomac.
(Interestingly,I just was provided a pop-up from Germany telling me you don't comply with the new internet policy. Like THAT's not intrusive.)

    1. That's interesting. Blogger is supposed to take care of that when someone comes to the site from countries other than the U.S. I am hoping that pop up was legit. I'll have to see how I can test that.

  3. Wonderful!
Sometimes during early Spring or Autumn migration I see a few geese in the air, but not often.
    Have a great weekend!

  4. Wonderful. That's a much nicer way to celebrate the 4th of July than with fireworks.

  5. Hi! I've often wondered if Canadian geese that fly south for the Winter and end up in New Zealand for 6 months of the year does that mean they get called New Zealand geese? I enjoyed your post. Thanks

  6. Geese are entertaining, aren't they?

(It's songbird, your page won't let me comment as myself.)

  7. Impressive aerial display! We get mainly seagulls flying over us in the summer evenings. I love watching birds fly. Do they feel as exhilarated as we would or is it just another day's flying for them?

  9. We have several family groups that summer here on the little lakes in our home town. Yesterday we were out with a selection of grandkids on our daily bike ride and came across a group of three nesting pairs and twenty (count 'em--twenty!) goslings. The kids were so excited!

  15. That is great. I have tried to capture flocks flying over the house, but never seemed to get to my camera in time. I get caught up in their movement and synchronization.
