Rock of Animals #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday and I welcome you to #MusicMovesMe.

But first:  This is my 3,199th blog post, meaning tomorrow will be my 3,200th blog post.  What do you think I should do to celebrate?

I'm not sure yet, but I'll try to think of something good.  And now, back to our regularly scheduled music post.

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? Every other week we have a theme, and on alternate weeks, we can blog about any music we wish.  We are headed by our head Engineer XmasDolly.  Her co-conductors are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice, (who right now is only able to post occasionally due to vision issues - please keep her in your thoughts as she takes this journey) and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   Also, co-conducting  is  Cathy from Curious as a Cathy although she will become a temporary head Engineer later this month.   And, (last but not least), there's little ol' me.

This month, our Guest Conductor is Marry Burris of Jingle Jangle Jungle and she has declared the theme for today:  Songs/Artists with Animals in the Song Titles/Band Names.

That's a pretty broad category, and I can't wait to see what others on this train have picked!

I am going to take a really broad definition of "animals" and include anything living.

First, I wish I could have included the Beatles and I Am the Walrus - but apparently, this is one of the songs that is taken off of You Tube as soon as it is put on, so no I Am the Walrus.

This is the first song that came to my mind: See You Later, Alligator, as performed in 1956 by Bill Haley and His Comets
Elusive Butterfly - a 1966 hit by Bob Lind.
The band Whitesnake performs Still of the Night and - well, the last few seconds make it clear what the song is about, in case you weren't able to figure it out.

Surfin' Bird by the Trashmen - one of my spouse's childhood favs.  Yes, the Bird is the Word!
One of my childhood faves - The Tokens and The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

Barracuda by Heart

BONUS if you have 17 minutes to spare, check this song out.  If you don't, why not just listen to the first two minutes and the last two? Iron Butterfly - and the full version of  (OK, OK, you don't have to listen to all of it - In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.

Have a wonderful Monday.

  1. Alana,

You shared some new ones with Bill Lind, Whitesnake, The Trashmen, & Iron Butterfly. The opening riff to "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" sounds familiar but I'm not sure if I'm mixing it up with something else. It was great dancing with you! Have a blessed and boogietastic week, my friend!

  3. Oh, my word! The memories!
I will add the two I listened to (ad nauseum) in my Dad's '78 collection when I was small: Horace the Horse and Smokey the Bear.

  5. UMG is actually starting to put some of The Beatles' songs out there, among them "I Am The Walrus." (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ws5klxbI87I) In the past, you always had to make do with versions recorded by other artists, alternate takes from one of the Anthology albums (which YouTube doesn't yank, oddly enough), or versions that have been sped up or slowed down to fool the algorithms, but now there are actual official recordings. The Fab Four did a lot of animal songs, "Blackbird," "Piggies," and "Everybody's Got Something To Hid Except For Me and My Monkey" off the white album alone.

You got some real goodies here. Nice list!

  6. I usually know most of the songs you choose, this time I only knew a few. Fun post both ways!
Congratulations on 3200 (tomorrow). I thought my post count was high when I just hit 700!

  7. Good selection. No Eric Burton and 'The Animals'? I have as a ringtone for a friend, The Lion Sleeps tonight!

  8. Love this! You picked some really good ones today! First, I thought I would share this with you I Am The Walrus
Love Surfin' Bird - I was going to use it last week, but completely forgot. LOL.
I also used The Tokens as it's also one of my favorites.
And I LOVE that you included Iron Butterfly.

  10. Concats on the milestone. Maybe you can have a commentathon for charity. You know like 50 cents for each comment. You certainly did include all God's creatures. Cool selections too. HAH! We remember Iron Butterfly. I think the peeps have the edited 3 minute single.

  12. Still funny they came up with the title of that last one because they were higher than a kite at the time.
And that is a lot of posts...

  13. You rock Alana! AWESOME list here! And I am listening to all 17 minutes of In-a-gadda-da-vida. Believe it or not I used to dance to the 17 minute version...but I got kinda bored in the middle. It was a sort of battle of wills. haha

OMG, I'm dyin' with the Surfin' Bird video! LOVE the song. Never saw it performed and I gotta say: I'm seriously diggin' it as much as I did with B-52s' Rock Lobster in my post. If you haven't yet been over to my place, please be sure to watch that video. I can tell you that the same fascinated expression and silly smile on my face I mentioned that happened while I was watching Rock Lobster happened now in watching your Surfin' Bird video. HIL-ARRRR-IOUS! This is definitely a video that gives and keeps on giving! Thank you so much for including it! You've made my day complete now... :)

I had to leave your site to go to YouTube to see Elusive Butterfly and I'm glad I did because that is a wonderful song. It sounds familiar and I believe I may have heard it in the past; something about it rings familiar. Regardless, I'm glad you included it.

I never thought of using bands with animals in their name. That was cool! The Whitesnake song is a good one. And well, Iron Butterfly is still playing in my headphones... :)

Excellent post Alana. Congrats on your huge milestone. I was just over on that post a few minutes ago.... You should be very proud. Way to go. Serious commitment!

    talk soon,
