This week is a "free" week and I feature some songs that "sang to me" this past week.

God Only Knows - The Beach Boys.  Paul McCartney has said some very nice things about this song.

Rockin' Robin - the cover by the Jackson Five.

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy - Sir Elton John

Another by Sir Elton - Someone Saved My Life Tonight.

BONUS Track (if you have about 11 minutes): Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding.

Why not visit the other Music Moves Me bloggers and see what they have posted today?  Or, better yet, join us ONLY MUSIC POSTS, PLEASE, AS WE NEED MUSIC TO GET THROUGH OUR MONDAYS.

Rock with you next Monday!

  1. Wow, that’s a lot of Sir Elton. Did you get a chance to see the farewell tour?

  2. Love these songs! "What a Wonderful World -" is my favorite from this batch because when you step back and watch the world (while discarding a lot of the negative things), you can see it's an amazing thing. "What a Wonderful World -" should be the theme of Valentines' Day as you can tie it to the way of thought: "Live simply".

  3. Alana,

I'm like 'Only God Knows' how much I love DH sometimes because love is such a hard thing to express. It's best felt and words can't even touch what you feel. I'm so thankful after 40+ years our love has gotten more meaningful and deeper together. :) I don't have to tell you that every time I hear 'Rockin' Robin' who I think of, right? lol 'What a Wonderful World' is the way I feel with DH in it! I feel like such a school girl. *blush* Elton John a favorite from my teen to young adult life. He had some excellent hits spanning the 70s and early 80s decades. Yellow Brick Road released in 1973. I didn't realize it came out before Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboys (1975). Both studio albums had some fabulous songs evoking some intense feelings from yesteryear. I have Yellow Brick Road on CD now. I might need to get the other one after all these years, except the streaming version. :) Thanks for sharing the dance floor with me, darlin'! Have a boogietastic week! XOXO

  5. I saw this video over the weekend that talks about the rivalry between Paul McCartney and Brian Wilson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMO52VyClLk) and how it changed the music of the '60's. Quite interesting that they came up with so many ideas at the same time but separate from each other.

Haven't heard "funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" in forever. Great set!

  6. Little Michael Jackson, I forgot how young he was when he started! The Louis Armstrong song always makes me cry.

  8. Someone's been listening to a lot of Elton John. A friend saw him on the Farewell Tour over the weekend. God Only Knows was a B-side of one of their hits.

  10. Beach Boys oooooo take me back to my High School Days! Michael Jackson was so full of music & a lot of himself in his youth ~ hehehe! Elton, Elton, Elton so many tunes, but I can't say he was ever on TV much so I recently seen him in that car ride show and I really got to understand him a bit more, but love all his Disney tunes. Great job my friend - love your picks!
