The Suddenly Unknown Address

Sunday night, I was (unexpectedly) online, ordering various computer parts.  My desktop had been giving me trouble for several months.  My son had done some temporary short term fixes, but, Saturday morning, I turned my computer on - and, several minutes later, the computer turned itself off.

Long story short, my computer, which dates from the big "Windows XP Support is Ending" era, died.  Son thinks it's the motherboard.  Because of its age, it isn't worth fixing.

So, there I was, ordering parts son would use to build me a new computer.

To my great surprise, two of the sites said the postal service could not validate my address.  That was news to me. I've lived at my current address for longer than some of my blog readers have been alive.  I do not live out in the country.  I am puzzled.

I found shippers such as UPS have "address validators" and, at least according to UPS, I exist.  That's reassuring- I think.  So, maybe I can face this upcoming April challenge with a new computer, if my address is indeed valid.

But why would my address become invalid?  That still is making me wonder.

There's one additional challenge, once I get my new computer - learning Windows 10, which I have never used.

It will keep my mind young, at least.

Are you participating in the Blogging from A to Z Challenge?

  1. I did not put 'Drive' once after my address and was told the same thing. Apparently the USPS has specifics for addresses.
Not participating in A to Z. Just too busy with life.

  4. Don't get Windows 10! You'll regret it! I'm so glad that, in the course of hack writing, I learned that 10 requires you to remove all external storage drives--the only way to store or back up data is "into the cloud" where it's out there for identity thieves and harassers. Feh. No "upgrades" for me until Windows rolls out a Customer Respect Edition that backs up everything to an external disk before it *can* connect to the Internet! XP needed improvement in this direction and 10 was such a long step down. Better to get a used computer and boycott 10.

  5. So sorry your computer died and you'll have to learn Windows 10. So glad that UPS has agreed that you exist. I send therefore I am?

  6. Hi Alana, thanks for your visit!
I think you've got yourself an A-Z theme right there:

"The blogger whose address is invalid" - A is for address, obviously, B is for Blogger, C is for Computer, and so on. U is for UPS, W is for Windos 10.

You're welcome. Looking forward to April! :-)

  7. Windows 10 isn't that much different. Not really.

Address verifiers are weird. When I get sales in my Etsy shop, their verifier sometimes changes the address. They're usually small changes. Things like changing St. to Dr. or moving where the apartment number is. (Not the number, just how it's formatted.)

So, I'd expect the issue is something small like that. (I've sent things to addresses that weren't verified, and somehow they seem to make it.)
