Yesterday, spouse and I left the house so I could take a short exercise walk during my work lunch break.
As we walked out of our house, I saw this flower in our front lawn. This is not anything I planted.
Today, after work, the flower was open. Here's an updated photo.
It's a colchicum, an autumn crocus. They grow in our area, although I have never planted one. Did a bird plant it, perhaps? It's a pity, though, we will probably have our first frost on Saturday.
Now I'm intrigued.

It is a pretty flower. The seed probably blew in from somewhere. We already had a frost and we may get another one or two later this week.

Beautiful flower. It's similar with something that I saw here in the parks, but when it is almost closed, like in the first image.

ReplyDeleteI have a big clump (they spread) in a raised bed, and I didn't plant them. I'm surprised you missed the foliage in the spring. No flowers until now, with no leaves, but all leaves in the spring. Maybe you kept mowing it down! You can dig it up when it's dormant if you want it somewhere else.
