The Everyday Extradinary Color of Leaves #ThursdayTreeLove

It's fall here in the Northeast United States.  Many of our trees are closing down for the year.

The leaves will be back next May, all nice and green.  But, only in the fall do they show their true colors - the colors that are usually hidden by the green chlorophyll, which allows the leaves to manufacture much of the food the trees need.  In the fall, the chlorophyll breaks down as the leaves stop food manufacture.

The true leaf colors are then revealed.

This explains the fall leaf turning process in more depth.

Today, I want to share some of this beauty with you.

Otsiningo Park, Binghamton, New York, October 11.

Montrose, Pennsylvania, October 10.

Otsiningo Park again, October 11.

I'll have more fall beauty for you tomorrow for Skywatch Friday.

In the meantime, I invite you to ponder this thought.

What if we were able to see the beautiful color of trees all year round, and not a couple of weeks in October?  Would we think those colors were less special?

Join me every second and fourth Thursday of the month, when tree lovers all over the world share the beauty of trees for Parul's #ThursdayTreeLove:

  1. I love trees whether they are green or colorful orange, yellow or red. I never knew about the chlorophyl hiding the true color. Thanks for sharing the info and your gorgeous photos. You really live in a beautiful area.

  5. We don't get much change in color here on the humid coast, so I enjoy it vicariously through your posts.

  7. May? The leaves don't come back until May? Really? Wow. That's a long winter. (I noticed some of our trees are getting a bit of color to them.)
