Step right up, my blog readers - ladies and gentlemen. I have some soon to be banned (maybe) pictures to show you.
Do any of you remember the expression "banned in Boston"? Do you remember a time when the city "fathers" banned books, movies, plays, and magazines for being suggestive, impure (in the moral sense), or containing adult content?
I remember it well, as this was still happening when I was growing up.
Works banned in Boston, the capital of the state of Massachusetts, include the books Elmer Gantry, by Sinclair Lewis; Oil, by Upton Sinclair, (the book the movie There Will Be Blood was inspired by), and A Farewell to Arms, by Ernest Hemingway.
Times have changed in the great city of Boston, but if there was one thing they could ban from their city today, it would be snow.
Right now, they have a lot of snow. Measured either in Gronks (one Gronk = 6 feet 6 inches) or smoots (one smoot = 5 ft 7 inches or 1.7 m), the 73.9 inches (187.7 cm) Boston has received is a lot of snow.
I have no pictures of Boston buried under massive amounts of snow, but I will leave you with some pictures of snow from my home in upstate New York.
Enjoy the pictures while you can.
They may soon be Banned in Boston.
What is your weather today like?
Well, no I never knew about the ban in Boston - really interesting - and we sometimes get 5 ft of snow - but have been in a drought with just a foot here and there - weather in the 50's now - great little post :)
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing here still again - but Boston is about to get slammed. I can not believe how much snow they are getting. I hope spring comes to them soon.
DeleteHi Alana :)
ReplyDeleteGreat share and awesome pics! Way too much snow in Boston lol
We're expecting temperatures in the mid-70s with partial sunny conditions today. I do enjoy your snow pictures. I probably would not enjoy dealing with the real stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of snow. A lot of places have had record amounts this year. Our weather here in Michigan hasn't been too bad, but maybe I just think that because I don't have to drive anywhere? It cold. I know that. Thanks for sharing your pictures!
ReplyDeletePlease do not de-friend me....I am walking around in a pair of shorts and enjoying a beautiful 74 degree sunny day. I actually have been sleeping with the window open because its too warm it our room at night and we haven't used our heater since Christmas. I will be the one complaining about the heat come summer though so you can smack me then. :)
ReplyDeleteOh and I also remember when they banned books. There was a big brouhaha when I was growing up about banning several books from the town library, but smarter heads prevailed. Even in our enlightened (well, yeah) times some places tried to ban Harry Potter books because they were about magic.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm disappointed. Why didn't you trudge through a mere 6 feet of snow to take a shot of Boston? I guess I'll have to be satisfied with the scenes you could see close to home. I'm not sure how anyone could carry out an order of banning snow, but I'm sure it would be on their wishlist. hehe.
