I remember lots of Halloweens, because I was the one who took my son trick or treating. One time, we had 12 inches of wet snow. Other times, it was cold and blustery. The leaves would be almost gone from the trees, stuffed into bags that looked like Halloween pumpkins.
Not this year.
They just don't make falls the way they used to.
This is what my part of upstate New York looked like yesterday when I got out of work.
Fall was definitely here, with trees glowing in the setting sun, like this beautiful specimen.
And this one.
But a number of (you can see one in the background of the picture above) trees hadn't started to turn yet. And the leaves should have dropped by now.
The temperature yesterday got up to 47F (8.3C), which actually made Binghamton one of the coolest spots in the United States. Some cities were up in the 80's, the temperatures of summer. Normally, we would have been happy. Now, we were just envious of (it seemed) everyone else.
Today, after a frosty start, it will be even warmer. What's going on, and what does this mean for our coming winter?
This is day #1 of NaBloPoMo, an annual blogging challenge. Come join us!
Here too, winter seems delayed. Never seen October/November this warm. Hopefully, it cools down. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe only have the pale yellows and greens- nary a red leaf anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI understand how you feel. But I would say enjoy the fall while it last. The pics look stunning. :)
ReplyDeleteIn colorado, all leaves fell but no snow yet. Heard usually it snows on Halloween here but not this time. By the way nice pics Alana.
ReplyDeleteFall does seem to be different lately. The trees seem confused by the ups and downs in the weather. We had a beautiful foliage weekend this past weekend so I can't complain too much.
ReplyDeleteStill in the 80s here most days, but we are promised a drop into the 70s next week. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteWe've been record high all week! The weather is not cooperating with our passive solar house plan...
ReplyDeleteLooks like wonderful fall for you! Cheers!
ReplyDeletei live much further south than you--in the Washington, D.C. area. I remember my impatients being killed by frost by the time Halloween rolled around. They are still flowering and the trees are pretty green.
ReplyDeleteHalloween snow? Really? Would you have rather had snow, or the warmer temps? (We were in the 70s.)
ReplyDeleteSeemed weird to me wearing shorts on Sunday and my flowers still have a ton of life left. Not sure whether to love it or hate it. I'm nervous our winter will be bad.
ReplyDeleteIt pretty much rain the entire month of October here. No trick or treaters the homes in my area are pretty far apart.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
Crazy how the seasons themselves seem to be changing. Season fruit are almost a thing of the past here.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK they say if the leaves are late to turn and fall we are in for a harsh winter. The trees in Norfolk look just like yours.
ReplyDeleteSo I guess we shall see 😳
We have been in the 80's which is crazy for this time of year. Our leaves just never got as vibrant as they usually do either :( Love your pics!
ReplyDeleteAll over the world, these are climatic changes and global warming. I still think they are pretty beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! Enjoy it all while it lasts!
