After hoping we would have early spring flowers to show for you (earlier than normal, but that's the kind of year we've had), what we got yesterday, instead, was a major snowstorm and a state of emergency that still exists as of me posting this. As of about 7pm, we had 24.5 inches (62 cm) of snow. Officially, it appears we received around 32 inches.
But, before I show you some scenes from that, here's what is blooming for me inside my house.
African violet
One of my three Phalaenopsis. Another has buds on it - maybe next month.
One of my Thanksgiving cacti is blooming. Another has buds.
But, as for outdoors - about two weeks ago I could have shown you one of my two Lenten Roses. The other one had buds on it.

If not for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, this would have been my final Winter Wednesday post of the year.

In the meantime, we wait to see what is happening down South with a freeze coming at a most unfortunate time.
Join Carol at May Dream Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day, and see what is blooming all over the world.
Alana, this weather is pretty awful. We had a windstorm last Wednesday (68 MPH gusts) and over 800,000 homes lost power. Some homes in our county are still without power. Mother Nature is fearsome. I hate heavy snowfalls, especially the ones over a foot high. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou take care, too. Weather is out of control. Well, we've never been in control, but now, there is always a surprise just around the corner.
DeleteThat is a lot of snow!
ReplyDeleteGlad you have house plants to brighten up your day
Happy Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day!
It is a lot of snow. Happy GBBD to you, too!
DeleteYour gorgeous blooms always lift my spirits. Hope Father Frost goes away and you get your Spring flowers as you'd wanted them. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteWe are keeping warm. Fortunately, no power failures.
DeleteThe ides of March has managed to ruin the tourist trap- the Cherry Blossom Festival. Having just bloomed before the snow- but especially the sleet (which made shovelling a b...h)- the season has been effectively terminated. Just like the snow did for your outside flowrs.
ReplyDeleteOur cherry blossoms were terminated last year. And, unlike the Terminator, they did not return. Well, actually, a few did have some sparse blooms again about a month later. Maybe the same will happen to you.
Delete32 inches of snow? Oh my! Stay warm and have a happy Bloom Day.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We are staying warm (and, hopefully, safe.)
DeleteI hope you're staying warm and safe during this.
ReplyDeleteWe are here. The National Guard has been called out, though, to make sure medical personnel can get to work, and to help out otherwise.
DeleteBeautiful flowers inside your house and it's a good thing you have them 'cause seems like you won't be digging out of this storm for some time. Stay safe and warm.
ReplyDeleteSo far, Karen, all is good. Thank you!
DeleteThis weather is unbelievable. Many getting sick. I do hope your flower garden can rebound when the earth thaws.
ReplyDeleteIt wouldn't have been unusual to have a snowstorm in March. What was unusual was some of the warm weather. Fortunately, none of my bulbs were blooming yet - just that Lenten Rose. So, I think things will be fine if this is winter's last gasp.
DeleteIt certainly has been a very unpredictable winter. We started with milder than normal temperatures throughout all of January and February with some days downright springlike with temperatures in the upper 60's. Now that spring is actually approaching, we have had some of the coldest days of the year and an almost blizzard on the 14th that just missed us by about 50 miles. We were lucky to be bombarded with sleet and rain, now followed by temperatures that won't get out of the 20's. Spring cannot come soon enough, but we can dream about it for now and you can enjoy those lovely indoor blooms! Happy Bloom Day!
ReplyDeleteHappy GBBD to you, too, Lee, and thank you for stopping by!
DeleteI feel for the flowers in your garden. One day they were blooming and the next day they got buried deep under snow. In Bangalore, summer has officially begun.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of snow! And here in Phoenix we are enjoying 90 degrees already. What a contrast! Stay warm and safe.
ReplyDeleteHaven't had an African violet for a while. Maybe I should treat my self to one.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on
24" of snow!!!! Oh my, what a blow this time of year. Lucky that you have a few blooms inside. They are gorgeous. Best of luck with the thaw. Happy GBBD.
ReplyDeleteStorm kinda swerved around NYC somehow, but we did get enough cold and snow to take out the daffodils in my building's front garden. :(
