Sweet Painted Ladies

As I blog this, we are likely to have our first frost. The temperature is hovering around 35, but may drop lower.

As I rode home last night, I mentally said goodnight to the flowers that may be history by the time you read this.

So many flowers, so little time to say goodbye.

Last month, my "guest photographer" took pictures of painted lady butterflies on zinnias.  Let us say goodbye to the red zinnias.
The pink zinnias.
The yellow zinnias.
Switching to some of my pictures - dahlias.
And it isn't just flowers.  Check out this coleus.

Goodnight garden.

Goodnight June.

Goodnight warm nights watching the moon

Time for the frost

Time for the pumpkins

Time to get out the winter coats and shovels.

  1. I prefer these painted ladies to those of the vernacular.

  2. I am planting zinnias in my front garden next year. Shouldn't have frost here until Halloween. I hope.

  3. Your garden must look wonderful and is obviously a haven for the butterflies. They look similar to what we call tortoiseshell butterflies in this country

  4. The colors of the flowers are beautiful and I like the butterflies

  5. Lovely and I hate saying Good Bye to the flowers as it means its going to get cold. I should be a bear where I can hibernate as I only like Summer where I can live in the water.

  6. Those are lovely flowers. I think I've heard Dahlia as a person's name.

  7. I will miss the flowers. Spring can't come soon enough for me. Thanks for the lovely photos.

  8. The zinnias look lovely. Its sad that you have to say goodbye to the flowers. But everything has a time and season!

  9. I won't have to say goodbye to all my flowers. Some will continue to bloom all winter, especially the calendula. We don't get too many killing frosts here that will kill our flowers. Tomatoes are another story.

  10. It is sad to say goodnight to the garden especially when there is still beauty showing!

  11. I hope the frost skipped you. Enjoy the cool, though. I'm jealous. (We've had a couple days of near 100 degree temps.)

  12. Come and visit--I still have annuals blooming. But as a transplant from the Midwest, I have to say I LOVE THE SEASONS. Saying good bye is hard, but welcoming new growth? There is nothing like it.

  13. We have some light frost here in North Idaho and a few flowers are hanging on. But soon the rain will come and then the snow...Coffee ias on

  15. Beautiful flowers! We have a bit different kind of winter here in the SF Bay Area. It's not so long, but will we get rain? And we need it soon to put out the terrible wildfires.

  16. Such pretty flowers! I know how bad it must feel when their season comes to an end!
