The Auto Train (a train that goes nonstop from Northern Virginia to Central Florida) provide the opportunity to see scenery you just don't see from the Interstate.
As the sun rises over Florida, we are past Jacksonville and riding through rural land.
We are passing through nursery farms growing ferns. What you are seeing is the top of shade houses shielding the ferns from the Florida sun.
Below, what you are seeing is frost on the ground on that January morning. Yes, even in Florida, you can get frost.
Sunrise over Seville, Florida.

We are having a beautiful sunny morning with weather that is more like early spring. Yay!
ReplyDeleteWe're back home now, and it was 51 degrees when we arrived at our house this afternoon. But, alas, not sunny. That is against upstate New York weather "no sun when unseasonably warm" rules!
DeleteAnd, there is a sale going on right now. (All the Snowbirds have made their trip, so the AutoTrain needs to be filled up with new visitors.)
ReplyDeleteAlas, it appears just to be for the Saver fares, which are non refundable. At this point in my life, non refundable is not an option, but it may be for others I know. Thanks, Roy.
DeleteWhat gorgeous mist!
ReplyDeleteThat train goes right past my house literally!
ReplyDeleteI wish I knew. I would have waved except I was on the northbound train that went through Charleston a little before midnight last night (and stopped at Florence at 1am today on the dot) so you never would have seen my wave. I would love to see the Auto Train from the outside one day. I've ridden it six times now - four southbound and two northbound.
DeleteHave a great week-end!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lea! (as I was out of town yesterday, I am catching up now!)
DeleteHow is the Autotrain working out for you? My husband and I took it home forty years ago after our honeymoon. Wondering if it is still an easy ride, easy off and on, etc. My parents can't drive to Florida now and were wondering about taking the Autotrain this winter. They are both over 80...so any problems you think someone older might be encounter would be good to know. Was it easy to get a reservation? Sorry for all the questions, but first person answers to these would be terrific. By the way, I am visiting your blog from Skywatch Friday.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to make a reservation - there is an 800 number. The Auto Train is "double decker" and the bathrooms are downstairs so I highly recommend the lower level for them, and reserving as soon as they know your travel date, as the lower seats fill up fast. Waiting for the train, I saw elderly using both canes and wheelchairs. There is a handicapped bathroom. They board those with disabilities first and they can ask any Amtrak employee for help if help is needed.
DeleteFleuriful, I have ridden the Auto Train six times between 2006 and yesterday/today. My experiences are all positive but I also understand it can be somewhat delay prone. Also, over the years, they have eliminated a lot of "extras" they use to provide as part of the basic fare, which is a shame (free snacks, free wine with dinner, etc.)
DeleteGreat photos and a scenic train ride!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteBright beginning to a beautiful day!
