Our winter in the Southern Tier of upstate New York has been up and down, up and down.
We had a record high yesterday - 69 F officially (20.5C), breaking the old record of 61 (16C).
Over the weekend, ice broke up on the Susquehanna River in Binghamton, New York.
Today, it was gone, completely, along with all our snow.
But that is all a memory now. Winter, ice and snow are expected back. The temperature is 34 F (1C). It will be snowing soon.
Yet, the tree endures, and awaits the secret signal that will tell it to awaken, to bloom, and to grow leaves once again.
I can't wait.

Yeah the weather has been wild, but I’m not fooled either. Longing for spring.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be 73 here, but the cold is coming back for another visit next week. I'm ready for spring. Our trees are already budding out and I'm sure the daffodils are right behind the trees.
ReplyDeleteAre these temps unusual for your location? Is this global warming or climate change? Thanks for the photo.
ReplyDeleteYou guys had warmer weather than us yesterday. Weird for that to happen in winter.
ReplyDelete*sniff*
ReplyDeleteMind you I'm not complaining really loud. We've still got lots of snow, but the temperature is actually -5 today! Woot!
Oh yeah! I heard it got randomly warm in NY for a few days there!! I kind of love when the weather's temperature does unexpected things like that! I don't like everything constantly being the same all the time, that's boring!!! I am loving the cooler temps in SoCal right now, not going to lie!
ReplyDeleteFrom the comfort of my warm city, I feel that your winter must be wonderful... I must add a visit to a snow bound place to my travel list... New York in winter sounds attractive indeed! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh yes Alana. I am experiencing your temperamental winter this year and can’t say I’m happy. Like you , I too am waiting for the leaves to turn greenon these bare and gloomy trees.
ReplyDeleteI feel you guys get a lot of variation in the weather. These are extremes. Isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLike you rightly said - the tree endures it all. Thank you for joining! I love trees from your part of the world.
I admired your capture, looks like a beautiful painting, despite the changing weather, this tree has the capacity to withstand.
ReplyDeleteI feel your words, Alana. I'd be the same as you, waiting for the leaves to get back on those bare branches...Climate change getting very very real everywhere I see!
