Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? We ride on a weekly train of music and we are headed by our head Engineer XmasDolly. Her co-conductors are: ♥Callie of JAmerican Spice♥, (who right now is visiting when she can ) and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥ Also, co-conducting is ♥Cathy from Curious as a Cathy♥ And, finally, last but not least - little ol' me. And, for the next few months, we will also have guest conductors. Go to Xmas Dolly's site, get the complete list, and you can find out how you could guest conduct next year.
Today, I am the guest conductor and I am bringing you TV and movie themes from my childhood in the 1950's and 60's.
In my childhood, TV game shows were big. One of the biggest one was a show called the Match Game. It took its theme from an instrumental called A Swingin' Safari by Bert Kaempfert and His Orchestra, from 1962. I could wish for more instrumentals today. Thank you for fellow participant in Music Moves Me John Holton for digging this one up for me.
Prime time cartoons were also big in the early 1960's. Does anyone out there remember Bugs Bunny's This is It? And oh, what heights we'll hit....
How about a glimpse into the future, early 1960's style, from The Jetsons? Not exactly accurate, it turns out. But TV Cartoons could take up a blog post of their very own, so onward.
A popular meme during the early 1960's was the TV Doctor. The theme song of Dr. Kildare (played by Richard Chamberlain) was so haunting to me - here, Richard Chamberlain sings the theme, called Three Starts Will Shine. So swoon-worthy, sigh........
And then there was the meme of the TV Lawyer. Perhaps the most famous of them was Raymond Burr, as Perry Mason. Here's his theme.
Switching to movies - from 1960, the theme from Exodus, as composed by Ernest Gold. A version by Ferrante and Teicher went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960.
The original James Bond theme. 007 rules!
How about a little song and dance from the year I was born (although technically, I wasn't born yet when this movie came out) - from 1952, Gene Kelly dances and sings in "Singin' in the Rain".
I will close with this 1966 theme song from the movie Georgy Girl - sung by The Seekers.
I hope I helped to make your Monday airy and light. Have a wonderful week! And be sure to visit the other Music Moves Me blogs for musical treats.
Alana,
ReplyDeleteYou're 9 years older than me. You'd be like an aunt to me. Seriously, my mother's youngest sister is 10 years my senior. We felt more like her baby sister than a niece. I'm sure I was ever bit as painful as one, too. :) I remember the show, "Dr. Kildaire" in name only. I don't think I ever caught a rerun of it. Why is that the purrrty boys (Richard Chamberlain) are always the gay ones? "Green Acres" was a fun show I watched many evenings after school. I loved the idea of a rich 5th Avenue couple living in rural America. That show was full of good laughs and wholesomeness! I love your themes this month, my friend. :) Have a tunetastic week! ;)
Great selection !! Since we are the same age I do remember all of them. I never watched Green Acres but heard the song of course. Who knew Dr. Kildare sang?
ReplyDeleteGoing to have the Jetsons in my head all day. That is a wonderful thing. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteSome really good ones here! We crossed over with "Perry Mason" and "Green Acres," though I had the full-length "Park Avenue Beat," which is a great song, period. Mary's theory is a great show always has a great theme song, and there were some great ones.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize movies were also part of the theme, but that's okay, I had plenty with TV themes.
Oh, my word! I love every one of these! The memories! The memories!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry Alana, I didn't do this theme since I was thinking it was movies and our family never went to movies. I still don't. You chose a bunch of good memories. Who could forget Match Game. When I do Sodukus, I still think, OK, I just finished Charlie Weaver's square or Charles Nelson Riley.
ReplyDeleteI love Green Acres, I always joke that could be my hubby and I except I look nothing like Zsa Zsa Gabor :)
ReplyDeleteDr. Kildare.... Did you know Richard Chamberlain had an album in the 60's where he sang that song, "Three Stars Will Shine Tonight?" We have a mutual friend. Two or three years ago I had the pleasure of having a late dinner with him in NYC after he'd finished his play "Sticks and Bones." He was everything I'd hoped he would be and more. Kind, thoughtful, funny, soft spoken... A real gentleman. xoxox, Brenda
ReplyDeleteExcellent picks! This was a fun theme. I remember seeing Singing in the Rain, and I remember the Jetsons and Bugs Bunny from Saturday Morning cartoons. I had heard of Green Acres, but didn't watch it. Sorry for being late to the party - it's been a crazy week.
ReplyDeleteHi Alana,
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun theme. You had some great picks! I totally forgot that Richard Chamberlain played Dr Kildare!!! Wowsa, that was cool. And I didn't know he sang...
The Jetsons was one of my favorite cartoons!
Love me some Perry Mason: then and now. Green Acres took me a while to get into but I grew to like that crazy zany bunch. Loved Arnold the pig!
And I love The Seekers song Georgy Girl. I don't remember the film though. Will have to check it out.
Hope you're having a good weekend,
Michele at Angels Bark
I wish my kids could watch some of these old ones!
ReplyDeleteI remember many of these!
Ahh yes, I can't wait to watch the James Bond movies with my kids.
