This is a day of endings. Guy Lombardo was a fixture of my youth, as he and his orchestra would ring out the old year. This is an early recording of the song that would become the standard for ringing in the old, back then.
And, speaking of parties:
Parties. (Prince, 1999).
The Byrd's Turn Turn Turn, and its biblical lyrics, sing of a season for everything, and everything in its time. What time will 2019 reveal itself to be?
I wish all my readers and listeners, all over the world, Happy New Year.
Alana,
ReplyDeleteI recall vividly from my childhood Guy Lombardo's 'Auld Lang Syne' playing at midnight on broadcast TV. It's nice that you featured this timeless classic. It looks like you and Marie are on the same wavelength with Prince, as well you and I with U2. There certainly is a season for all things. What a beautiful close to your New Year mewsic choices! Thanks for your friendship. May we make more mewsic together in the coming new year and may the good Lord bless you and yours throughtout 2019, dear friend!
Love Guy Lombardo's classic! Of course, I love all your choices - and wish we were planning to party like it was 1999! ;) Thank you so much for being a great dance partner throughout the year - here's to an inspirational 2019! Have a very Happy New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteGuy Lombardo ... I remember watching him on New Years Eve from the Waldorf Astoria. Channel 2, WCBS, believe
ReplyDeleteThe Byrd's song makes me sad for some reason. Guy Lombardo, he is nostalgic but I do tear up now when they play Imagine. Wish you a Healthy and Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteGuy died over 40 years ago, but his rendition of Auld Lang Syne is destined to be played into eternity on New Year's Eve. That's a nice way to be remembered. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteGreat songs and I am seeing that Prince's 1999 is everyone's favorite. Have a Happy and wonderful New Year.
