> Every January 1 (except when it falls on a Sunday) the Tournament of Roses parade is held in Pasadena, California. And wouldn't you know it - their theme this year was "The Melody of Life".
I'd like to bring you a little flavor of that parade. But first, some music.
Live performance of The Cowsills and The Rain, the Park, and Other Things.
Talking Heads - [Nothing But] Flowers.
Flowers on the Wall - Statler Brothers
You Don't Bring Me Flowers - a duet with Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond.
I took these pictures from my TV of the Rose Parade - one day I will get to see this parade in person but not this year. First, Far Out Frequencies.
How about this Hep Cat?
The Power of Music.
Finally, check out those drums. Keep in mind, when you view these floats, that the entire float and its contents must be covered in all natural materials - flowers, seeds, bark, spices, or something similar.
Join me again next Monday for another #MusicMovesMe, and while you are at it, why don't you check out other participants in this blog hop?

Alana,
ReplyDeleteThe Cowsills still perform? That's so cool! They sound great. Every time I hear "The Rain, The Park and Other Things" I think of the flick 'Dumb & Dumber'. That movie cracks me up! I like your theme for today. We watched a bit of the Rose Parade. The floats are so amazing. I was surprised to learn that they do not have the parade if it falls on a Sunday until this year. That's rather neat. You know I don't remember the Statler Brothers doing 'Flowers on the Wall' but I reckon it was them that I heard eons ago. I guess what threw me is they are a country band but this song doesn't sound country. The song charted #2 on the Country Hot Singles for four weeks, as well hit #4 on Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966. So, there you go that's why I couldn't place the band as a country group because it also a crossover hit! It's great sharing the dance floor with you today, my friend. Have a boogietastic week! xx
So, very cool. Thanks for sharing the Rose Parade pics. Great songs.
ReplyDeleteLoved the music. Great memories- even the Statler Brothers (who overpowered Central Virginia for decades).
ReplyDeleteStill not a Neil Diamond Fan even with Babs! The parade is fantastic. We have a rose festival parade with flower floats here in Portland in June. Come and visit!
ReplyDeleteI saw the Cowsills three years ago. They were touring with the Turtles and a few other acts from the 60’s
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, The Stadtler Brothers are fun to listen to. I saw them a couple of times in Branson Missouri and they put on the great show. Have a blessed week.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of good songs here! The Cowsills still sound the same 50 years later. The Streisand/Diamond duo was a good morose song fro the era of good morose songs, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteWhat a fascination. I love that the floats have to be covered with natural elements.
ReplyDeleteAnd I always enjoy Neil Diamond!
