This weekend, for the first time in years, our area is having an airshow. The United States Air Force Thunderbirds are the headline performers.
They are in our area right now, along with other performers, practicing. And we know this because we heard them this morning, as we exercised walked in a local park. More about them in a minute.
I hope they get the airshow off, because our weather isn't looking good this weekend. (And no, I didn't buy tickets.) Like much of the Northeast United States, we've been having a lot of storms and rain. We have had several flash floods this week. One town in our county has been hard hit by the floods. Having been in two floods myself over the years, my heart goes out to them.
Here are some of our recent skies, taken between July 9 and July 14.
The muddy river and a downed tree (and some puddles)
Just before a thunderstorm, framed by trees.Let's hope the power doesn't go out.
I am beginning to fear we may be working up to river flooding, a story for another time.
Anyway, back to the upcoming air show.
My spouse saw four planes in the air, and pointed them out to me. I hurriedly got my iPhone SE first edition out of my purse and aimed. I got two pictures.
One "barely" has the four planes in it. It could be the Thunderbirds. Or maybe not.
The other -no dots, but I figured, it's Skywatch time. It is nice seeing a sky without a looming thunderstorm in it, even if the Thunderbirds (or whoever they were) are hiding behind that tree.
How was your week?
The last times I went to an air show was when my kids were little. And, instead of heading off to the massive air base around DC, we reveled in the smaller (and, to my thoughts, better) show at the Long Beach Airport. (That used to be the headquarters of McDonnel Douglas, before they were acquired.) I also attended the grand expo in Oshkosh, WI.
ReplyDeleteHope your weather holds out- even if you don't go to the show.
Greetings and Salutations! My husband, two sons and I saw air shows at Lake Michigan, downtown Chicago, Illinois. Exciting!
ReplyDeleteGreat shots Alana. I sure hope the rain will stop soon and I hope there is no flooding from the river!
ReplyDeleteI hate the noise of those planes! We get them once in a while, not a show, maybe just flying for practice. They are scary! So loud! If I'm thinking of the same planes. The county fair is here this weekend, after not having it last. No, I'm not going. So, when you gonna get a new(er) phone! Not that it would zoom that much for the planes.
ReplyDeleteAngry pictures, I hope the air show does get off. I know I was disappointed last night when they canceled the Red Sox/Yankees game.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, Alana! We're parched here. Praying for rain. I'd love to see a few of those 'puffy-uglies' in my sky right now! ;)
ReplyDeleteI think those are, indeed, the Thunderbirds. I’ve seen them and the Blue Angels, and while the photo is fuzzy I think you’re right.
ReplyDeleteIt's so cool when they're nearby enough for you to catch some of the flying without buying a ticket. They do a show near my father's house, and we don't go, but we can watch from his backyard. I'm sure we miss most of the stunts and such, but we get to see the planes flying back around to get back into position.
ReplyDeleteAir shows. When we lived in Oklahoma City years ago they had a yearly show. We lived several miles west of the airport and the planes would come out and circle over our neighborhood waiting for their turn to go do whatever they were doing at the airport. So we saw a variety of aircraft.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your skies are stormy alright. Rain, up to a point is a good thing.
I love your beautiful photos.
Fingers crossed for nice weather and a fun air show. Beautiful sky shots!
ReplyDeleteI do hope the air show can go on. I know they are always impressive to see. Crazy weather all over!! I do hope no river flooding. I remember threats of it when we lived in Billings, Montana.
ReplyDeletebetty
Interesting sky pictures! Hope the thunderbirds can be captured up close. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteWhat state do you live in again? Where we live it's been gray clouds and rain, but today was beautiful. Go figure! Have a great weekend my friend! hugs...
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots!
