First Week of October Skies 2021 #SkywatchFriday

Skywatching in the Southern Tier of New York the first week of October, 2021.

October 1 - various views depending on where you looked.  This was to the west of where I was standing.

Another view, this time along the Chenango River, it was a lot more gloomy.

Watching Canadian geese in the same park, the sun out again.

A goose watching me.  For my non North American readers, this is a common goose in our area and they aren't totally welcome, as their, shall we say digestive remains, foul the grass and walkways of our parks.  They are almost exclusively plant eaters.  It is illegal to hurt them in any way.

By Tuesday, we were getting rain.

At the end, there was a faint rainbow.  My cropping of the picture may have something to do with the power lines looking like a bunch of dashes.  I like the effect.

Sun shining through trees yesterday.

Wrapping up with a photo of a glistening Susquehanna River possibly at the end of September.  Not an official part of the October theme, but still pretty.

Once again, joining Yogi and the other skywatchers who gather each Friday for #SkywatchFriday.

Watching the sky is free - and fun.

Have a wonderful weekend!

  2. Sorry about the Canada geese. But we Canadians do love to share! Because of them we've made up our own lyrics to 'Little Deuce Coupe': 'Little Goose Poop'.
    Beautiful skies, Alana!

  3. I love the picture of the sun shining through the trees, reminds me of when I was a kid, laying on the grass and looking up into the sky on a lazy summer afternoon.

  4. Your skies look familiar to me. I grew up in northwestern PA, not far from Erie and Jamestown, NY.

  5. Oh, those geese! They are definitely messy, and Mickey tries to eat their messes at the park! Huge nasty messes. Ick. You got close to that one. Even if you zoomed, the ones here never let me get that close. Are yours leaving? I have flocks passing over every few hours heading south and east by the looks of them.

  7. Great looking skies! We had to move our bird bath farther from our door because the gray geese were drinking from them and pooping on our walkway!

  10. You left out how obnoxious those geese are. Ours left the area a couple months ago, and we do not look forward to their return in late February or so.
