After a couple of days of winter weather, including a snow squall warning, spring returned to the Southern Tier of New York yesterday.
Yesterday, after work, I sat outside. All the birds were out celebrating: downy woodpeckers, mourning doves, white breasted nuthatches, American crows, tufted titmice, house finches and black-capped chickadees. I heard a red bellied woodpecker. A male Northern cardinal sat placidly on a fence next to a common grackle before the grackle took off. The song of male red winged blackbirds filled the air.
We have some crocuses blooming. Here's two of them.
Not taken yesterday |
My spouse also saw his first chipmunk of the year.
Could it be spring for real this time? Well, no - it's back to winter next week. But I'm enjoying this while I can.

We used to have a lot of crocuses on the memorial garden but none the last two years. I think the mice have eaten all the bulbs. The boys used to keep the mice down, but now they have free rein.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
I hope for your sake spring stays! My weather is supposed to be in the 70s at the end of the week. We'll see... Chipmunks are cute. They live in other parts of Oregon. I'm more familiar with the Golden Mantle ground squirrel, which people mistake for chipmunks. They have stripes, but not on their heads.
ReplyDeleteLovely spring time photos ~ love the chipmunk ~ hugs,
