It's Monday, and it's time for music!
Today I am joining up with other Music Moves Me bloggers (and you can join us at the linky above). We are a group of music loving bloggers who blog about music each Sunday or Monday (or even later in the week). If you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please! Otherwise, your post link may be labeled "No Music" or even removed.) We have occasional theme weeks, but you are welcome to ignore the theme and use music of your choice. Why not join us? You don't have to sing, or play an instrument. All music lovers are welcome.
Today's theme is"You Pick". It seems like I've spent some of the last few months living in the past. Oh yes, those were the days!
Mary Hopkin and "Those Were the Days" from 1968.
"Those Were the Days" was the theme song from the 1970's theme song All in the Family. Jean Stapleton's voice is so screechy I can barely stand it but the lyrics are gold. This is the first time I heard the entire song. This version, apparently, was never played on the long running TV show.
"Summer of 69" from Bryan Adams. I decided on this live version with Taylor Swift and Bryan Adams. Oh, how I wish the sound quality was just a little better.
As for rain, I was inspired by the weather reports several days ago for Southern California. This first song, from 1971, is a nostalgic song for me.
Here are The Doors and "Riders On the Storm".
Let's end with Albert Hammond and his 1972 hit "It Never Rains in Southern California".
And that's a wrap!
Join me again next week for another episode of Music Moves Me.
"Those Were The Days", indeed! π Every one of these evokes a memory. The summer of 1969 was a pivotal one, and Bryan Adams' song makes me think of that, even though it was recorded much later. Surprised to see him duet with Taylor Swift, and right in my neighbourhood, no less. π "Riders On The Storm" is still chill-inducing, due to a tragedy (a traffic fatality). And I used to spend a lot of time in California, because my parents lived there (San Diego). It didn't rain often. π
ReplyDeleteGreat selections! You brought back a lot of memories. :)
ReplyDeleteThose were the days … lots of nostalgia in those lyrics
ReplyDeleteThanks for the memories.
ReplyDeleteI haven't thought of Mary Hopkin for decades. What a sweet voice she had.
ReplyDelete...the Doors are the only ones that have made my playlist.
ReplyDeleteI don't know that I remember these songs in the 60s but then I was quite young and my attention was attuned to music. Your picks carried over into the 70s and I do recall hearing them throughout that decade. "All in the Family" was such fun sitcom. We expecting some rain later in the week for several days but hopefully it won't be a total wash out. "It Never Rains in Southern California" might be the most memorable of the songs from my early years. Thanks for the enlightening music, Alana. Have a boogietastic week, mi dear! xo
ReplyDeleteI've always liked Bryan Adams. Some good songs.
ReplyDeleteGreat music, top-notch.
ReplyDeleteBest regards, and I invite you to see my new film :)
All In The Family is classic a d the way Edith sings...Ouch..lol. love the other songs which i have not heard in a long time, except for the Doors
ReplyDeleteHey Alana. I knew I was gonna love your post from the opening song! I love Mary Hopkin’s “Those Were the Days”! What a great song, and who can’t relate to the sentiment?! Those were the days indeed! She has such a pretty voice too.
ReplyDelete“All in the Family” is such a classic from the 70s. I still to this day watch it — it’s on fairly regularly and when I need a laugh I tune in — which I’ve needed more and more of those lately. Speaking of voices, a lot of folks don’t realize that Jean Stapleton actually has a lovely voice. And a fairly deep voice at that. She came up with the voice for her character Edith Bunker. I remember reading that she had to rest her voice often because maintaining that high-pitched screechy voice wasn’t pleasant on her vocal cords. And I’ve been a longtime fan of Carroll O’Connor ; he’s amazing. I’ve seen some of his earlier work back in the B&W 60s days — he was in Time Tunnel and played a Nazi General or something like that. He actually didn’t break into acting until later in life — I’ll have to go back and double check but I believe he was in his mid-late 40s when he broke into acting. And he loved to sing. In fact, at first the theme song for All in the Family was completely instrumental, that same tune but just the music. He so wanted to sing so he asked the show creator (or someone in charge) if he could come up with some lyrics to the tune could he sing the theme song? So he did and they auditioned him and then they brought in Jean Stapleton to sing in her Edith Bunker voice and it became iconic comedy/sitcom gold. I believe that’s how it goes. I may have a few details wrong but I’m pretty sure either that’s fact or it’s close! I don’t want to jump out of your comment section right now because I’m using my phone and too many times if I leave a comment it’s gone when I come back…or something happens and it kicks me out. Anyway, I’ll check the story and get back to you. Lol
What a great duet with Bryan Adams and Taylor Swift. Taylor always surprises me! She teams up with a lot of different artists which I think is really cool. That was a great performance! Thanks for sharing it. Bryan Adams was a huge part of my 80s college days. So many fond memories from back then. Those were some days, for sure! π
And your last two songs, also awesome. I remember fondly “It Never Rains in Southern California” but I never knew who sang it. I’ll have to check him out some more.
And the Doors “Riders on the Storm” — so many memories with that song too. It often gives me chills when I hear it, something so eerie about it.
Other times it reminds me of one of my high-school friends (still one of my best friends) who was a Doors and Jim Morrison fanatic; we would spend many a day and night up in her room listening to Doors albums and getting high. π Those were the days!!
I have loved every song in your post. Not just liked but really loved and appreciated each and every one. Excellent and very enjoyable post!
Have a great week Alana. ❤️
Hey Alana, I just left a really long comment and hit Publish so not sure if it’s in moderation or it didn’t go through. If it didn’t go through I’m gonna have to rewrite it later on. I should know better than to use my phone when doing blog comments! This happens over and o er and I still do t learn my lesson.
ReplyDeleteAnyway please check your messages in moderation and if it’s not there let me know and I’ll do rewrite. Dammit! I’m so sick of this! Loved your post though . Big time loved it.
