Ordinary Week? #SkywatchFriday

Some would call it ordinary, but I wouldn't.

Friday, January 16, I took a walk in our local park.

These skies look so ordinary, except for these facts:  First, there is blue sky.  Second, you can see the sun. And third isn't about the sky, but the ground.  It isn't covered in snow.  More about that a little later.

Monday and Tuesday, we had clear enough skies to see the aurora.  I've seen pictures on Facebook from several areas of our county.

But I struck out at home.  Or maybe I didn't but it was too dim when I went outside to look.  I did capture three stars, which look like white dots if you look hard enough.

We had a warm wave earlier this month.  The snow melted.  But the bitter temperatures are returning.

Also, this coming Sunday, we are supposed to get between six and 12 inches (15.24 to 30.48 cm) of snow. Over 200 million people are going to be affected by this storm.  For us,  it is going to get cold.  Our county is already setting up warming shelters for people who have lost power.

At least we aren't supposed to get ice. Cross fingers.

Joining Yogi and other sky watching bloggers each Friday for #SkywatchFriday.

  3. I sure hope there isn't any ice, and all you get is some nice powdery snow. The blue skies are lovely.

  4. We are in southern path of the storm and we're supposed to get only ice. Not very happy about that. I think your sky pictures are pretty. Take care and keep warm.

  5. Are they stars, or are they planets? I got one of those sky watching apps, and when I see a bright "star", it's usually a planet. So much fun to watch.

  6. It's me, CAAC popping by! I'm not looking forward to this system as its sinking south into east Tennessee easily and I'm not sure how much further it'll reach. It's definitely going to be wicked weather. I pray everyone's power stays on. That's a lot to ask this time of year. Stay warm, be safe, and don't go anywhere this weekend! xo

  7. That's nice, and green grass instead of white! You must be thrilled. Enjoy it while you can.

  12. The skies are pretty. I didn’t see the Aurora either, but I didn’t try this time because there are too many lights in my neighborhood and I didn’t feel like driving around on a cold night.
