Shades of Purple

Yesterday was the unofficial start of summer in upstate New York.  The pools are open, the carousels are running, and we even had a flower festival (more on that later in the week).

Today, I want to share with you some flowers from my yard.  After the seriousness of Memorial Day, it is time for a little lightness.  Spring has sped by so quickly, and we are transitioning into summer, it seems about 2 days after it stopped snowing. (It's been longer than that - maybe five weeks ago?)

My irises are blooming.
One of the hanging baskets I've made for this coming summer.  What is more cheery than yellow and purple?
Can you tell that I love purple flowers?
My Mother's Day basket in golden hour light.

And finally, henbit.  Yes, it's a weed, but in golden hour light, it looks so lovely.
Breathe deep...and destress.

  1. My columbine is blooming but it is just too hot and muggy outside to enjoy it. The irises should open this week. Looks like summer is here.

  5. I don't have any Iris in my yard but I do love them so tall and straight and bearded! I think Iris should be purple.

  6. Gorgeous! I love flowers. They are our reward for the months and months of cold and awful! I planted all my bedding plants yesterday. My yard is transformed!

  9. I am quite certain had I inhaled the henbit pollen, I would be distressed, not de-stressed!

  11. Totally awesome! I love purple also... I mean who doesn't? ~hehehe~ The first flower is my favorite. I like anything really that's just a bit different... you know, out of the ordinaire...

  12. I thought of you so much over my weekend break as the flowers in the garden were in full bloom. Unfortunately I couldn't remember some of their names and wished you were around for me to ask.....

  14. Oh I love the sight of these lovely looking flowers. All the colours are so pretty. I live with this constant wish to grow plants and flowers of my own but there is always this constraint of space and the fear that I will kill them.
