Tomato Butterfly #WordlessWednesday

One of the varieties of tomatoes spouse is growing in his community garden plot is called Big Rainbow.
It's a beefsteak variety, meaning it's large and meaty, with lots of liquid.

Yum.

This particular one got wrapped around a stem during its babyhood, and grew up into this.  To me, it looks like a butterfly.  We didn't plan what the stem looks like.  Unfortunately, getting this tomato extricated from the plant left a bruise on the left side so we'll have to use it right away.

I think this one is destined for a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich, one of my summer favs.

  1. I'm more into tomato, mozarella, and balsamic vinegar.

  3. Alana,

I see the butterfly in that tomato. :) I love freshly grown tomatoes. Yum! I bet that one tastes good. I've tried growing them in containers on our porch but mine didn't turn out great in years past and so I abandoned my pursuit of garden fresh tomatoes. Maybe, if we ever move then we'll have a nice place in our yard to put some raised beds to cultivate better tomatoes. Have a wonderful day, dearie!

  5. Yes it does look like a butterfly, but getting wrapped around something didn't stop this little trooper from thriving. Great capture.

  6. Doesn't have to be pretty to be good eating. I find it fascinating when things grow around other things.
