Grateful #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday and it's time to be Grateful for Music!  And I am grateful to my fellow music bloggers and readers at Music Moves Me and their virtual friendship - thank you!!

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join!  First, there is XmasDolly,   Her co-conductors are:  Cathy from Curious as a Cathy, Stacy of Stacy Uncorked   and, finally, me.

We'd love you to join us every Monday and share your music with us.  But please note this is is a music blog only - please post at least one You Tube or Vimeo video so we can dance with you.

Each month we have a guest conductor. This great month of November our guest conductor is Songbird from Songbird's Crazy World.

Songbird's theme for today is: "In honor of Thanksgiving, songs that spell out the word "Grateful"

Yes, different countries celebrate Thanksgiving on different days.  In the United States we celebrate this coming Thursday, always the fourth Thursday in November.  So, here is my list of songs that spell out the word "Grateful"

Glory - John Legend and Common, from the movie Selma.   I never get tired of hearing this song.  I hope John Legend and Common never tire of performing it.

Riders on the Storm - The Doors.  I wore out the LA Woman album in the summer of1971 listening to this song over and over again.

Abraham, Martin and John - Dion, 1968.  This has been an earworm since yesterday, a grim anniversary in our nation's history.  Dion, like me, grew up in the Bronx, a borough of New York City.

The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway - Genesis's 1974 album,  is one of those that some call "cult classics".   This is the title song of this concept album.

Easy To Be Hard - Three Dog Night's version of this song from Hair is better known, but I thought you would like to hear Cheryl Barnes sing the song in 1979 in the movie adaptation.

For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield, is timeless.

Unchained Melody, sung by the Righteous Brothers.  And, last but not least...

Lady Marmalade - the original, sung by LaBelle, (the lead vocalist being the incomparable Patti LaBelle) from 1975.  Those costumes...that music...those days when people could crowd into a disco without fear. After some grim songs, I had to lighten things up. And those lyrics...well, those lyrics.  At least they are in French!

I am Grateful to you, my readers, today and every day in the year.  Stay safe, my dear readers, and I'll see you next Monday, same time, same place!

  1. Alana,

WOW, what a powerfully moving set of GRATEFUL songs you pulled together for us on the dance floor. I'm not sure I've heard "Glory" before this morning which is quite stirring. The Doors "Riding On The Storm" is my favorite. "For What It's Worth" is timeless and the verse from this song that goes ...

    Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
Step out the line, the men come and take you away

Is where we are today or it feels that way to many of us. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I hope things reset January 1, 2021 for life to go back to normal again. I'm ready to kick COVID in the breeches right outta my life! Okay, alright...it is what it is, so let's make the most of it anyhow. We can give thanks around the table with a few and everyone else maybe do a virtual gathering. Technology is something we can all count as a blessing with the pandemic cutting into our lives.

You're a great friend. I'm thankful to have you in my circle, darlin'! Have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving and have a boogietastic day!!

  4. Music Monday looks a little too complicated for me, but maybe I'll try it in 2021.

  8. The only one, Genesis, that I did not know, did not come up.

All the others were part of my early years, when I was young and hopeful!!

  9. You go girl, great job on the tunes! I don't think I ever saw the video with Patti LaBelle in Lady Marmalade, I never saw the video with John Legend in Common... it's awesome. I have to say I listen to that one twice. I haven't heard Abraham, Martin, Luke & John. Yep, great job. Have a great Thanksgiving girlfriend! God bless you & yours! hugs
