Their lyrics fed into all of my teenaged angst.
I would spend hours in my room, listening to their albums on my record player, and submerge my feelings of being unloved, not understood and having the most embarrassing father ever. Oh yes, the Vietnam War was going on, and we were all going to blow ourselves up soon.
Today, I want to share some of my favorite Simon and Garfunkel songs - all beginning with the letter S.
This was not one of their hit songs, and may not be familiar to you, but this version of Silent Night (with a simulated news broadcast getting louder and louder in the background) seems so perfect for today's climate.
And finally, another one that may not be familiar with you, but I loved how it sounded - "So Long Frank Lloyd Wright". What I did not know until doing research for this post is that Art Garfunkel majored in art history. but only after changing his major from architecture. His first wife was an architect. Also, one of his cousins founded 'N Sync and one of my son's favorites as a preteen, the Backstreet Boys.
"S" day on the Blogging from A to Z Challenge - my theme, Traveling Through Time and Space.
Delighted to visit and find Simon and Garfunkel - big favourites of mine. Happy A to Z ing.

Thank you for the walk down memory lane. It's a long time since I heard any of these songs! Have a great weekend. https://shirleycorder.com/seo-strategies/
ReplyDeleteI love that particular sound from the '60s.
ReplyDeleteI totally love their music...a staple still - listen to these songs in the car and around the house...
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,

Ah these brought back old memories. They were my favourites too. We were far removed from the Vietnam War but found the whole Flower Power generation all too fascinating.
ReplyDeleteBTW do you get my comments?
I never saw them perform together, but did get to see Garfunkel when he toured alone. I enjoyed their music.
ReplyDeleteI loved their music!

One of my first albums was Bridge Over Troubled Water.
ReplyDeleteI love Simon and Garfunkel - I have their 'best of' album and I think I've almost worn it out. And now I have Scarborough Fair - parsley sage rosemary and thyme stuck in my head!

Oh , thanks a lot for this reminder :) Comparing the music then and nowadays ... who will ever remember Justin Timberlake and Co. in 30-40 years time ?!.. How sad to see these amazing 60's / 70's idols now slowly passing away.
ReplyDeleteLove Simon & Garfunkel!
ReplyDeleteLovely. There's a Simon and Garfunkel song for every occasion.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Simon & Garfunkel's music although I did not know much about the background of their songs. Thanks for sharing. WeekendsInMaine
ReplyDeleteI love Simon & Garfunkel, but don't remember the last song. It's lovely. We were going to see them for a reunion tour a few years ago and had the tickets already. Sadly, it got cancelled (and they never re-scheduled) because Art was having trouble with his voice. Oh well! we cashed out and saw The Who instead. Not a bad trade-off. ☺
ReplyDeleteLove their music.
ReplyDeleteNice to find an A to Zer who remembers the 60's. As far as I'm concerned, 60's music is the best ever, before or since.
ReplyDeleteSimon and Garfunkel wormed their way into my subconscious when I was still in kindergarten. I still love them, and remember all those songs. Another old favorite beginning with S: The Sound of Silence.
ReplyDeletethey have produced some really soulful songs. The sound of silence is my personal favorite. Loved your picks.
ReplyDeleteI'm a Simon & Garfunkle fan!

Love the story about Scarborough Fair dating to the Middle Ages... It fits that they'd find them and use them.
ReplyDeleteI am a big Simon and Garfunkel fan. Saw them in their farewel concert in 2009 in Auckland New Zealand. Was awesome. Hard to pick a favourite but Scarborough Fair was a good number.
