Diner #AtoZChallenge

The true diner is a small, one story structure that serves mainly inexpensive American cuisine. The original diners were converted train dining cars, but later, they were built as prefabricated structures. Many times, needing to be delivered by rail, they were of a width that allowed rail transport, and tend to be long and narrow, with stainless steel siding. 

Today, I introduce you to a 1940's Silk City diner in Bennington, Vermont called the Blue Benn.  If you want breakfast hot, delicious, and inexpensive, this is the place. There was outdoor seating due to the pandemic, but it wasn't operating the day we went there.

It wasn't that crowded by the time we finished eating, so I was able to take some pictures, trying to make sure I didn't photograph anyone.  Here is one of the tables.

The food? Delicious and I highly recommend their sourdough bread, which is made across the border in New York.

  3. I didn't know the first were railway cars, but that makes sense calling them diners, being the dining cars. In the mid 70's my (then) town had a converted passenger car restaurant called, I think, The Railway Station. It was quite fancy, and fun to sit in little side areas (I guess the former cabins) with only a couple of tables.

  5. Oooh, I haven't seen an actual diner diner. I mean, I've seen diners, but not ones that live up to the traditional definition.
