Spring Mystery #WordlessWednesday

It's time to party.  Spring is here.  It's really here.

It got up to 61F (16.1 C) yesterday.

My crocuses are blooming or nearly ready to.  I have buds on a couple of daffodils.  Tulip leaves are poking above the soil.  We may have chives ready to eat in another week.

But spring also has a mystery for me.

For years, I've wondered what this insect is.  I'm thinking it may be something called a stonefly.

Years ago, when we had almost constant snow cover, these were the first insects we saw.  They reliably showed up in March and would walk on the surface of the snow.

Now the ground is bare part of the month, and I wonder - do they miss the snow?

One even landed on me while I was outside yesterday on my laptop and listening to the birds sing their spring songs.

Does anyone know what this insect is?  I'd like to finally solve this mystery.

To all those in the Northern Hemisphere, I wish a happy spring.

  2. I have no idea what kind of bug that is, but welcome spring. We had a horrible storm yesterday. Thunder and lightening and rain coming down in buckets. Going to rain today too.

Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥

  6. 61 is a cold day. If we have a high of 61, everyone's sporting their heaviest jackets. (The weather for us lately has had us shivering daily.)

  9. The crocuses are pretty. I think I have seen flies very similar in the UK, but have no idea what it is.

  11. I checked the current snow depth in Lahti, Finland. Here´s 23cm (9inch) of snow and below freezing point at nights. Days are tad over freezing point though. Happy WW!!

  12. I clicked to see the insect. It looks like a stonefly from here. Was the body straight, bolt-shaped, under the wings? If so it's a good sign: they can live only in clean, clear water.
