Porchfest Music List #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday and we know what that means, right?  It's Labor Day here in the United States.  But not only that...

It's time for Music Moves Me!

Who are the Music Moves Me bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please!)   First, there is XmasDolly.  Her co-hosts are: Stacy of Stacy Uncorked, Cathy from Curious as a Cathy, and me.

Each month we have a guest conductor. Today, we welcome our guest conductor (and all around wonderful person) Cathy from Curious as a Cathy.  Cathy has picked as our theme for this week:  You Pick, meaning anything goes.

But before I begin, tonight at sundown starts the Jewish New Year, the anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, and the beginning of our Days of Awe.  It will also begin our year 5782.  To my Jewish readers, Shana Tova, good year.  A good, sweet year.

I blogged last week about Porchfest, which took place August 29 in Binghamton, New York.   It's a neighborhood celebration of music and the arts.  People open up their porches to musicians, who play half hour sets.  You wander until you find a band you like, or check the schedule and visit the bands of your choice.

Here is part of the music that one cover band, Wreckless Marci, played for the audience both at Porchfest and another event, Broome Bands Together, a couple of days later.

First, some 1980's music.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Won't Back Down, from 1989.

The Breakup Song - the Greg Kihn Band, from 1981.

One from the 1970's: Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd, from 1975.

It's kind of funny; the 1990's songs listed below aren't songs I would listen to on my own, but when they were performed live, I loved them.

Creep - Radiohead, from 1992.

Fly - Sugar Ray - 1997.

Longview - Green Day - 1992.

We're running a little long here, but how about a bonus song if you have time?  Let's go back to the 1970's for a minute.

BONUS song, from 1978, the Ramones and "I Want to be Sedated".

And that, boys and girls, is a wrap!

Join me again next week, same time same place, for more Music Moves Me!

  5. Alana,

Interesting tidbit that yesterday was marked the Jewish New Year and that has to do with the creation of Adam and Eve. I may have to read more on this subject. Your 80s song picks are fab and you picked a few good ones from the 90s which isn't my favorite decade for music. Radiohead's "Creep" is the only one I know. Your bonus track is new-to-me, as well. Thanks for the introduction of all the unknown songs, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!!
