Music Moves Me - Creepy and Spooky Alltogether Halloween

Today's theme, on the day before Halloween, was a tough one for me!

When we talk about Halloween, exactly what are we talking about.  Trick or treating?  Ghosts?  Monsters? Devils?  Candy?  I decided to go with my own interpretations, trying to avoid what may be the most obvious Halloween song, Boris Pickett's Monster Mash.  Nothing against that song; I just think I've heard it too many times.

Anything can be Halloween oriented, if you do it just right, like this scarecrow of Cher erected for a scarecrow contest in a local park earlier in October. (For the record, I adore Cher.)

But, returning to creepy....

During the 1960's, TV show about "creepy" monster like families became popular.  The two top shows, I think, were The Addams Family and the Munsters.  Here's more on the "monster craze".
The Addams family actually has had a distinguished history, dating back to their first appearance in the New Yorker magazine in 1938.  Drawn by cartoonist Charles Addams, they have greatly influenced American culture.  An album of music from the TV show was even released.

Hence, my first selection is the theme from The Addams Family TV show.

Here are the others.  First, Ray Parker, Jr. - Ghostbusters.  I ain't afraid of no ghosts!

Boris the Spider - The Who. How many of us are afraid of spiders?

And finally - it's long, but I believe it's a masterpiece - the full music video of Thriller by Michael Jackson. (If you are more interested in the song than in the pseudo-horror movie this official video is, there are shorter versions available on You Tube.).  This has everything: singing, dancing, and even Vincent Price!

Music Moves Me is a weekly blog hop!

  2. Alana,

You really rocked the dance floor with these tunes. The Adams Family was a favorite from my childhood. I don't care too much for the films made in recent years, though. "Ghostbusters" is an excellent 80s flick full of fun plus it has a terrific theme song that makes you wanna rattle your bones on the dance floor. "Thriller" was a spootacular hit in its day and continues to be an iconic tune for Halloween. Michael Jackson was brilliant. It's sad that he died too soon. Oh the tangled web we weave in our personal lives sometimes, huh? Thanks for joining the 4M crew today and have a spooktacular week!

  3. Great choices. The Addams Family managed to have enough joviality to keep it in line with the program. And, Thriller- nuff said.

  5. A few years back I saw the Addam's Family on Broadway and as soon as the music started the crowd started snapping their fingers. I loved the show and dreamed as a kid my husband would be like Gomez! And Thriller what can you say it was breaking new ground in music videos in the day and so good! Happy Halloween

  8. Those are all really great selections!! Mysterious and spooky, and altogether ooky, I'd say. ;) Who knew that the Addams family went back that far? I sure didn't!

  9. Love that music! And the Cher scarecrow. I could use that in my garden. It wouldn't scare the birds one bit, but it would give me a chuckle.

  10. Great selections!

Apparently there's a "Thriller" contingent at the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village these days. I haven't been lately, the crowds are a bit much for me, but it looks like so much fun!

  12. Ou have just shown me how out of touch I am with modern popular culture. We never saw any of these shows. We didn't have a TV until 2014. We use it primarily for news. I read for entertainment. I'm afraid this kind of music moves me -- but usually to another room. Guess I'm a Halloween party pooper. I just don't like scary things. Never have. But you did a good job on this post.

  14. Happy Halloween Alana! Love your post and The Who's "Boris the Spider" is absolutely perfect for Halloween! I love it! Great choice!!
Thanks for including the article on the monster craze. I had no idea that the Addams Family had been a cartoon!
I also didn't realize that both the Addams Family and the Munsters only lasted two seasons! That almost seems implausible as I watched those shows constantly as a kid and it seemed like they had a ton of episodes. But of course that was back in the day when TV series seasons lasted for 26 weeks so 2 seasons would've yielded approximately 52 episodes (equivilant to
5 seasons of today's television seasons, which are usually only 10-13 episodes. I wish they'd go back to those 26 episode seasons!)

Michael Jackson's Thriller music video is absolutely amazing! I used it in my post too (I know I said I was going to blow off this week's 4M but I just had to take advantage of this great holiday theme!). :)

Hope you have fun today and tonight...whatever you may be doing. Be safe out there!
