Music Monday - Blue Christmas

Normally, on Mondays, I join a blog hop called "Music Monday".  This Monday, I am not going to join in because I won't be in a position to visit my fellow music lovers.

However, I believe 100% in the healing powers of music, so I hope you will join me for a few moments of music that may help through hard times.

I guess by now I should be an expert on this kind of thing.  Twenty years ago, my father in law passed away the day after Christmas.  This year, my mother in law passed away the day after Thanksgiving.

I know that some (maybe many) of my readers have suffered loss during the holiday season.  It doesn't have to be death - there are so many kinds of losses and disappointments out there.  None of us pass through this world unscathed.  And it is hard, for those of us who have suffered loss, to go through a season where you are supposed to be merry and bright, but you see the world through sad-tinted eyes.

In the song Blue Christmas, Elvis sings about a Christmas without the one he loves.  I chose a live version with Martina McBride for this version.

I'll be back to Music Moves Me next Monday, hopefully.

  1. Alana,

Darlin' friend I'm so sorry for your and your hubby's loss. It's going to be a 'Blue Christmas' with out those you love this year. Yes, we've had the unfortunate timing to loss family members near the holidays. In 1980, we lost both of DH's grandpas within a two week period near Thanksgiving and December 2012 my grandma passed away. I attended her wake on my birthday. But, you know it doesn't matter when you loss someone because when the holidays roll in you're thinking about them and the sting of that loss pulls at the heart. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, dear friend. Sending hugs and kisses your way. God bless!

  3. Yes, I lost my father just before Christmas of 2009 and I still have moments of melancholy during the season. This is a wonderful video and I had completely forgotten about how long Martina McBride has been in the business. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers this day. May the God of all creation wrap His arms around you in a special way in the days ahead.

  5. I am sorry for your loss. It is hard when everyone is filled with Holiday Joy and you have a heart with a hole, an empty chair at the table, no one on the end of the phone line. I totally understand and wish you the best going forward.

  7. Oh, my goodness, I hadn't heard! You mentioned it was imminent, but I didn't realize how imminent. I'm so sorry that you will be missing your sweet mother-in-law now. But I fully believe in a beautiful, peaceful life after this one and that she is happy. Her work here is done! Happy for her but sad for you. Thinking of you, my friend.
