Thundersnow

Our weird winter continues.....

Last night (Thursday morning) we had a thundersnow storm around 2:30 a.m.  I slept through it!  Spouse was woken up.  We had about 20 minutes of snow and sleet, leaving a mess of slush all over the ground.

Today, the weather forecast calls for possible thunderstorms late.

What does that mean?  I dread to think of it.

Many people in other parts of the country have already learned the hard way, with deadly tornadoes.  These are coming earlier than normal.  Plants are blooming earlier than normal in many parts of the country.

There is folklore I blogged about last week concerning what happens when you have thunder before the leaves on the trees are larger than a squirrel's ear.  That happened after a midday storm with thunder (and yes, I was awake for that one.)  I didn't read the one about thunder in winter meaning snow in 10 days.  (I don't know about all "old wives tales" but I have personally witnessed the one about seeing the underside of leaves (makes a silvery sheen) means heavy rain will come later in the day.

2012 has only just begun.....

Does anyone else have any more old folklore about thunder before any leaves are on the trees?  And more than once?
