Yesterday, walking on the West Side of Binghamton, NY, I finally saw crocuses. They were blooming in several front yards (alas, I didn't have my camera) along with snowdrops. Some daffodil flower heads were starting to color up, too.
And then the snow showers started. And then the temperature dropped. This morning, it was 20, with a frosting of snow on the sidewalks. Tomorrow it is supposed to be 15 when I wake up. At least no snow is expected.
But then it it supposed to be near 60 by Wednesday.
We've only had about three days this winter where we couldn't see the grass poking up.
So what will happen when spring comes? It isn't too far away on the calendar.
This is the least snowy winter we have ever had, barring our two winters in Florida. Less snow cover than the one winter we spent in Wichita Falls, Texas (of course that year they had a record snowstorm. But still....). Less snow cover than five winters in Northwest Arkansas. Less snow cover than four winters in Wichita, KS.
Parts of this country have already paid a severe price for this winter. Ask the folks of Kentucky, Missouri and Indiana, some of whom had to deal with snow falling on the ruins of their towns.
I can't help but wonder what is in store for us. But in the meantime, I am going to remember to bring my camera tomorrow, and take pictures of those crocuses.
Welcome! I hope I bring a spot of calm and happiness into these uncertain times. I blog about my photography adventures, flowers, gardening, the importance of chocolate in a well lived life, or anything else on my mind.

Yes, we were in for a weather shock. We moved to Northwest Arkansas from CT to be away from the snow. First winter here, huge icestorm, no power for 5 days. The next winter 2 feet of snow for Christmas that took a week to melt.
ReplyDeleteAnd last summer the hottest on record with outbreak of fleas. And this winter is very mild. We will see what summer brings.
