(Thank you, Susan Wilson and the Word Count Blogathon, for the inspiration for this post.)
Yesterday was one of the Word Count Blogathon theme days - asking us to write about apps we use on our tablets or our smart phones - for writing or for other purposes. After reading a couple of the posts, I got to thinking:
Do you have a feeling that the apps we really need just don't exist? Maybe they never could exist. But why not dream?
The apps I use are commonplace- just the usual Twitter, Facebook, Kindle, LinkedIn, Weather Channel, Trip Advisor, and the app for my local newspaper. Also, Weight Watchers. I no longer am a member, but I am still paying - for now - a monthly fee to keep the app. And, GasBuddy. I love it when we travel.
But, these are the apps I would snap up quickly, if they existed. Would you?
1. Chocolate app - aim your phone at any food, and it turns into chocolate. You are given a choice of milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, or chocolate with nuts.
2. Calorie removal tool - aim your phone at food. Keeps the great taste, removes the calories. Listen up, developers! People would pay millions to buy this one! Especially if used right after app #1 above.
3. Name that tune app - sing a song to it and it immediately tells you what song it is, the artist, and the year (I think there may actually be something like that but it has to hear the actual recording?)
4. Memory app - when you have a senior moment it prods you into remembering what you were trying...uh, where was I? and
5. The Flower Identifier App - you pass a flower or tree you love, and it tells you exactly what you are looking at.
I could think of a lot more. The "Cook Dinner Instantly for Me" app. The "tell off your ex in a new and creative way" app. The "how to find just the right words to say you're sorry with" app.
What apps do you wish the developers would REALLY develop?
Welcome! I hope I bring a spot of calm and happiness into these uncertain times. I blog about my photography adventures, flowers, gardening, the importance of chocolate in a well lived life, or anything else on my mind.

Yep need all of those apps, love the chocolate app for sure! Great post!
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to use your imagination to solve real-world needs. I just wish I was an app developer. I don't know any, either.
DeleteHmm.
ReplyDeleteI think these are not apps- but robot needs...
Robots who love chocolate? What an idea for a science fiction story.
DeleteI think there is an app for #3. Have heard of something that can identify even humming. Wouldn't be surprised if there was something to help for #5 too! Personally I'd pay BIG bucks for #2.
ReplyDeleteFun post.
You are right - for #3 there are several apps out there already. After some research I decided on SoundHound, the free version. We'll see how it works. Thanks!
DeleteI think you are on to something here. I especially like the flower identifier app. I could use a bird identifier app, too. Point it at the bird or where the bird is singing and it tells you what you see/hear. I'd pay for that!
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of bird identification apps for the iPhone - I am not a birder, so I don't know how they work i.e. if they are just bird guide books on your phone. I would love an app that identifies from pointing, too - even using a guide, you have to have an idea of what you are looking for and I am clueless.
DeleteHi Alana- I so want that chocolate app:-) and the flower app sounds pretty cool! I wonder if there is an app like like! Have you checked? xo Dana
ReplyDeleteI have checked - I didn't find one that you could just point and identify, that seemed to work according to the reviewers, that is. (Leafsnap, for example).
DeleteI love your app ideas! I could definitely go with the Chocolate app and the calorie removal app. what a fun post!
ReplyDeleteDo you know any app developer? We need these!
ReplyDeleteNo, don't know any app developers. If someone knows one, could they send these comments to that person, lol?
DeleteI need an app that streamlines the commenting process and keeps track of which blogs I left comments on and when.
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy an app that would let me comment on blogs, using my iPhone, and bypass captcha and other things that are even worse on the phone than on a computer. Bet that app will never exist.
