So we can all hope, here in upstate New York, for an early spring.
Yesterday, while the nation's groundhogs were trying to predict if we were going to have six more weeks of winter or an early spring, we had lake effect snow squalls. Here are a couple of shots.
These squalls, incidentally, come quickly and can sometimes cause near whiteout conditions in mere seconds. In other parts of upstate New York, they can dump several inches of snow in a matter of inches.
This one was bit more sedate.

Right after the squall. Several minutes after this picture, the sky was blue, as if nothing had ever happened.

Mother Nature is a crazy one. Some groundhogs saw their shadows some did not. I say those that do...it's because of the bright spot lights on them.

DeleteNature, like life, is unpredictable! I live in the south and the temps go from 70 one day to 40s the next. Crazy weather all over the planet!

DeleteAnything outdoors in my neighborhood yesterday saw its shadow, and it now looks as if this snow is moving south.
ReplyDeleteGroundhog would have seen his shadow today. It's finally a beautiful, sunny day (but not pleasant due to a cold wind.)
DeleteYou can almost feel the difference in the atmosphere between the two pictures. The first one is so bleak and after the squall it's so clear and beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI am glad I brought back memories. I don't think I would miss it - I lived in Florida for two winters when I was in my 20's and I certainly did not miss it.
