I live in upstate New York, on the edge of what we casually call "The Snowbelt". At our airport, it isn't unusual to get 80 inches or more in a season. (For my metric friends, that is 203 cm of snow). You can track a friendly competition between five upstate New York cities at the GoldenSnowball website.
Right now we are at nearly 69 inches (175 cm) but the ground seems to have been bare quite enough throughout January. And, as I blog this, it is above freezing, and it is still dark.
For your Wednesday viewing pleasure , here is some snow from yesterday. If you are one of those people who doesn't live where it snows, let me assure you that you are not missing out on anything. Even if it is pretty from afar.

We have not had much snow this year, but I did take a pic of one of my bushes with snow on it yesterday. It was rather pretty. So are yours. One of our worst snow storms hit in April, so anything goes, but I'll keep my fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI well remember March 13, 1993. Too bad I wasn't blogging back then. Not sure where my pictures are but we got 23 inches at the house. We already had snow on the ground and my son (who wasn't quite 3 yet) had so much fun making snow tunnels with his friends, under my watchful eye.)
DeleteWe a;ps had our first snow of the season the other day (Monday). My favorite kind- the sort that decorates the trees, the grass, the cars.... leaving our sidewalks and roads perfectly clear.

Yeah, rub it in. One of my cousins moved from Pittsfield, MA to Harrisburg, PA several years ago, thanks to his job. When his new neighbor saw cuz's snow blower and asked "what's that?" my cousin did a happy dance.
DeleteYou know after my recent holiday, I am CRAZZY about this stuff and just cant seem to get enough of it! I loved my snowy times and thrilled to see it fall and walk in it and play with it........... Sigh!!!!

DeleteMy goodness! Not sure where you are in upstate NY but I am in Toronto and we just had maybe an inch fall overnight. First time since Christmas that we've had snow.
ReplyDeleteI used to feel disoriented in winters without much snow on the ground. I'm used to it now...happy dance. Sorry, those who depend on snow for their livings.

DeleteI am not sure where you are in upstate NY but I am across the pond from Buffalo in Toronto. We got an inch of the lovely fluffy snow last night. It's been more than a month since the last time. It's so funny that we are so close and our weather is so different!

If someone is mild, someone else has to be cold. Nature tries to balance it out, but I think she is struggling more and more.
DeleteIt is pretty. In the Buffalo area, we are falling way behind in the snowfall contest. We need more snow. I haven't had an opportunity to go for a snowshoe hike yet.
