Local Sunday - Mushrooms and Trout

Today, a day off from the Blogging from A to Z Challenge to feature some local food from yesterday's indoor Binghamton, New York Farmers Market.

Mushrooms.  Yes they tasted better than supermarket - spouse, who loves to cook, commented on their texture.  They were organic, too.  We had passed them by all winter, but spouse finally decided to buy some.  Why did we wait so long?

Trout (smoked and fresh). We bought both and had the fresh trout last night. Would you like the recipe for the trout spouse used?  Let me know in the comments, and I might work it into an April post.

A nearby stall featured hand pies, cookies, and English muffins.  Not sure if the blueberries or apples in these pies were grown locally, but they easily could have been.
And if you wanted oatmeal, there was even that. (Yes, there is some farming of oats in this area.)

In April, my one free day from the Blogging from A to Z Challenge, I will feature either a "Local Sunday" or a "Spring Things".

Tomorrow, it's back to the Blogging from A to Z Challenge.

  1. They had an article in today's paper about morels and the mushroom festival in May. My Dad was a great and avid mushroom hunter. They changed the time of my Saturday yoga class and it makes getting to the farmer's market difficult. I like to go early, but not when it opens, lol.

    1. I'm too "chicken" to hunt mushrooms. My late aunt in Iowa used to hunt morels and I was introduced to them by her. Then, I had morels again in a visit to Missouri which will be discussed (the visit, not the morels) for my "O" post.

  2. We don't get many varieties of mushrooms in our local market so much. But I do love a decent preparation of mushrooms. Weekend visit to the farmer's market is something I used to do with my dad but now there's just no time. Everything is online. Sigh.

    1. I am going to try to publish a recipe for the trout, if I have the time, during the challenge. I already wrote my "T" post but maybe I can work it in, somehow.

  4. It must be local food day! Yum! I love mushrooms. Mushrooms with trout sounds exquisite. Yes, please, work in the trout recipe. I would love to try it out, after Easter, when I've finished my vegan cleanse!
