Summer Don't Leave Yet

Summer, don't leave yet.

Yes, you've been relentless, with heat, humidity and flooding rains.

But I know you aren't done yet with what you do best - growing plants for eating and for beauty.

One more daylily blooms in my yard.
My front yard displays such beautiful colors.  Included here are (in no particular order) basil, pineapple sage, broad leaf sage and various ornamentals.

But, I see you creeping in, fall.  You can't fool me.

Today, at a local farm market:
Pumpkins sit ready to be taken home.  I don't know if there's such a thing as a callico pumpkin, but these must come close.

Winter squash, ready for the cooking.  They will soon be a staple of my Weight Watcher's diet plans.

Alas, summer.  You will soon be gone, replaced first by gorgeous color as trees turn, and, finally, by bitter winds and the first snowflakes of fall.  The seasons have their order and their reason, in our four season climate of upstate New York.

One day soon I'll dream of you and wonder that things were ever green and mild.

But first, just a few more days of summer......

  1. Love your yellow daylily. I can boast I have a green thumb for squashes - 11 spaghetti squash and 8 butternut. I have no talent for zucchinis however. Only one. Strange as the summer was, the garden did well. Some stuff better than others.

  3. I’m not ready for pumpkins or winter squash. It’s going to be 90 in NYC tomorrow.
