Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers? We are bloggers who blog about music each Monday. Every other week we have a theme, and on alternate weeks, we can blog about any music we wish. First, there is XmasDolly, Her co-conductors are: ♥Callie of JAmerican Spice♥, and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥ Also, co-conducting is ♥Cathy from Curious as a Cathy♥ . And finally, there's me.
<!-- end LinkyTools script —> Our honorary co-host for November is Stacy of Stacy Uncorked. Her theme for today is "Unconventional Duets" for example, Country-Pop Crossover duets, or duets by artists from different genres you wouldn't expect to collaborate together.
So....I may end up deviating a bit but here are my selections.
Would anyone have dreamed that the collaborations between Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett would be such a success? The musical chemistry between them is unmistakable, as Lady Gaga crosses genres into the standards catagory with "The Lady is a Tramp".
Speaking of Lady Gaga, how about this duet with Sting "King of Pain"?
One of my favorite duets - Eddie Money and Ronnie Spector (of the Ronettes) in "Take Me Home Tonight" from 1986. This song contains elements of the Ronettes "Be My Baby" from 1963.
It's Only Love - Bryan Adams and Tina Turner. Whether this fits the category I'm not sure, but I love it.
And finally - thanks to a fellow blogger, John Holton, a small tribute to the late Tony Joe White - a duet with him and the Foo Fighters on Dave Letterman's show - Polk Salad Annie.
And that's a wrap for today!
Fun choices thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGreat song choices. Thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteCool choices. I've been a fan of Lady Gaga forever. (and, my son of Dave Grohl.)
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! You did the theme total justice! ;) I especially love the Lady Gaga duets - how did I miss those?! :) Thanks for the dance!
ReplyDeleteThese are great... I think I was a little unclear on the concept...
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed those videos! My Mr. has a Rod Stewart duets album that I love and has some really good juxtaposition of artists.
ReplyDelete:) gwingal
Great choices. Of course, now that my post has been up for a good 12 hours, I've thought of another duo. Oh well. I'll just store that one away for another time. You never know when it will come in handy.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen A Star is Born? Wonderful movie. I think you would really enjoy the music!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices, as always (she said groggily...the monday after we fall back is always hard on me...)
ReplyDeleteI love Tina Turner and Bryan Adams; that was my jam (well, one of my many) back in the day before I went almost all Hair Metal. But I digress. Gaga has really won my respect as an artist. I'm not fond of all her music, but she does have an amazing voice, and I've gotta hand props to those who can actually play musical instruments and write their own songs, which she does. I said over at Dolly's that she also did a duet with Metallica that I'm waiting to see if anyone shares. At this point, I don't think there's anyone of any genre that she can't successfully duet with.
ReplyDeleteKim
Well, I guess great minds think alike. I too had a couple of Tony Bennett's collaborations, but STING??? Nope, didn't see that one. Unreal that's what I say.... and those others HOLY COW! YOU ROCKED THE ROOF OFF TODAY GIRLFRIEND. Thanks for the dance for sure.. I'm tuckered out! hugs!
ReplyDeleteAlana,
ReplyDeleteThe first time I heard Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga it just about knocked me over. I think they compliment each other beautifully. Excellent pairing and smart move on Bennett's part. I really enjoyed the collaboration between her and Sting which is new-to-me. Great pick! "Take Me Home Tonight"...wow, I haven't heard that one in awhile. I had no clue who the Ronnettes were in the 80s. It wasn't until I began blogging that artists like this Iearned their identities. I often knew their mewsic but had no idea who was singing it. lol Thanks for the boogie session!
I've always liked Bryan Adams voice. I didn't know of this duet. Very fun choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the dance!
Hey Alana,
ReplyDeleteAwesome post here Girl! LOVE it! The more I see of Lady Gaga the more I love her. She is simply amazing! Her and Tony Bennett: Wow! She is so fluid with the genres and she's fantastic with the old standards. At some point in that performance, I saw (heard) glimpses of Liza Minnelli. And then her pounding that piano with Sting, OMG. She is incredible. Have you seen her in A Star is Born yet? I can't wait to see that (this week!).
Also really dug Tina and Bryan Adams. Every day should have a little Tina attitude in it, that's my new philosphy anyway!~ :)
And I love Letterman's comments at the end of watching Tony Joe White perform with the Foo Fighters (another band I'm becoming more familiar with and really liking).
Great job with the theme here. Love all your pics.
I briefly read your other election posts and need to come back to dive in and then comment. I couldn't believe the New York's re-election of Chris Collins, after he's been indicted on several felony charges. Jesus, sounds like DC's Mayor Marion Barry all over again. Good grief! Anyway, I'll swing by those later on.
Thanks for crankin' up my Saturday with these excellent duets!
