Let's Go Latin #MusicMovesMe

It's Monday and it's time for music!

Let's introduce the Music Moves me bloggers:  We blog about music each Sunday or Monday and if you have music to share with us, you are most welcome to join! (Music Posts Only-meaning at least one music video, please! Otherwise, your post may be removed, or may  be labeled "No Music".  Our head host is Xmas Dolly, and our co-hosts are Cathy from Curious as a Cathy, joined by the knowledgeable Stacy of Stacy Uncorked and, last but not least, me.

Every other week, we have a theme.  On alternate weeks, we can blog on any music theme we want.  Today is a free day, where we can blog about whatever music we want.  This week, our theme is Latin artists.

I grew up in New York City.  The air was full (especially after the invention of the boombox) with Latin flavored music.  I liked a lot of it and I wish I knew the names of songs or their artists that l heard floating in the air.

I am starting with an artist I may never have been introduced to except for taking several years of water Zumba classes.  This artist's songs are popular in Zumba classes because many are great dancing songs.  I can't seem to find the couple my instructor used (and I never knew the names, just that they were Pitbull songs), so I chose this, figuring that 1.38 billion view on You Tube meant something..  Better yet, it has two Latin artists. So let's start with the son of Cuban immigrants, Pitbull (birth name Armando Christian Pérez) and Rain Over Me ft. Marc Anthony.

Next is a man whose recording career only lasted eight months, due to a tragic airplane crash later known as "The Day the Music Died".  Here is Richie Steven Valenzuela, better known as Richie Valens and his hit La Bamba.  We'll never know how many more hits he might have had if not for that crash.

Gloria Estefan (born Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García in Havana, Cuba) and Miami Sound Machine with Rhythm is Gonna Get You.

Another hit artist, one of the greats of the guitar, this artist was born in Mexico.  Introducing Carlos Humberto Santana Barragán, better known as Carlos Santana, with a 1970 live performance of Black Magic Woman.

Here's an artist from Hawai'i whose given name is Peter Gene Hernandez, but we better know him as Bruno Mars.  Here is Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars wth Uptown Funk.  I chose a mashup dance video of Old Movie Stars Dance to Uptown Funk.  I enjoy these mashup dance videos.

Finally, here is a Latin singer whose career spanned some 40 years.  Let's welcome Mexican born José Rómulo Sosa Ortiz, who recorded as José José, and his song Vamos a Darnos Tiempo.

And that's a Latin wrap!

Joining the Music Moves Me (links above) gang again for Music Moves Me.  Catch ya again next week!

  7. Excellent choices. I'm not into rap but I do like Pitbull. Glad Gloria Estafan is here. Love the old films and know most of these. I need to know the early black trio who dance...they are superb. Actually, Begin the Beguine would be perfect here too since that is from South America as far as I know. Fred and Eleanor Powell danced their heart out. Whoever made this mash up did a great job.
