All summer I had not seen one Monarch butterfly. Not one.
Each year, there seem to be fewer and fewer of them.
But, on Sunday, I finally saw one. It wasn't close to me but I wasn't going to run after it. That's why it seems so small. There's only so much I can zoom in using my iPhone 13 mini.

ReplyDeleteIt's worrying when you don't see familiar wildlife, or as much of it as you used to. It's a common refrain, I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteT his is Birgit and yes! I have yet to see one and they were so plentiful. Have they found out why the monarch has diminished? I hope to see a few now.

Congrats! I have milkweed near my community garden plot, but I have also seen fewer monarchs this hear. Our garden is partnering with a butterfly group to try to improve that -- but only so much we can do with climate change.

ReplyDeleteI've not seen one this year either, but then I didn't go out and look when they normally flit through. (We've always seen them in spring and fall, very rarely in summer.)

ReplyDeleteGlad you finally spotted one. I don't know if I've seen any monarchs, but it seems like I've seen more butterflies this year than I normally do. And dragonflies. (And some different birds.)

ReplyDeleteWhen the kids were small, we often made a point to visit the portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway where the monarchs passed heading south. It's been quite a while since we've seen any. Good capture!
