On Wednesdays, I have a seasonal feature.
Binghamton, New York, indoor farmers market, October 29.
Fall veggies - radishes, beets, brussel sprouts.
Cornell Cooperative made a pumpkin pudding - not from the Hubbard squash to the left, but from canned pumpkin (which is really canned winter squash), instant vanilla pudding and a couple of other ingredients. It was delicious.
The inside was decorated in orange with festive lights.
And outside, nature provided its own color. Alas, the low clouds of November have settled in.
Do you enjoy going to farmers markets?
What is exciting is that, for the first time ever, we will have a year round market this year, once a week, in this brand new building. It will be interesting to see how people respond.

We have a fresh market down the road from us and it's always fun to visit. Had never heard of Hubbard squash before. Pumpkin pudding sounds lovely. My Mum used to make an ice-cream of what we in India call bottle gourd.
ReplyDeleteI think Hubbards are a squash for more northern climes. They are extremely tough to cut (you basically have to drop them so they shatter) but they will last all winter - a quality that was once vitally important.
DeleteI haven't seen an indoor farmer's market since I was a tyke- also in NY. (It was as large as what we now term a box store.)
ReplyDeleteThen you have to come up here! Or go to North Carolina - both Raleigh and Asheville have awesome indoor markets and they are year round.
DeleteI love farmers' markets! My Halloween post was actually pictures from Powell's Farm Market, our Fairport friends took us there and it was so much fun.

DeleteFarmers' markets are the best! Fall veggie gardening is really at its best here in the fall. We are just now finishing up getting ours planted with various types of greens and root vegetables and sugar snap peas.
ReplyDeleteFrom the two years I spent in Florida, I do remember how "topsy turvy" gardening was there (winter was the season) from us here in the North. Enjoy your garden. Ours will be buried under snow soon.
DeleteMy favorite is Detroit's Eastern Market but that is 25 miles away. I hope to get to the county market before yoga on Saturday, only ten miles from me.
ReplyDeleteI love big city markets, too, but rarely have the chance to visit one. Never been to Detroit. Many years since I've been to Michigan. Why, I really don't know.
