Summer is quickly slipping away from us, but it's the 15th of the month, and it is time for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. Thanks go to Carol at May Dreams Gardens for hosting this 15th of the month meme.
Wasn't it just August 15?
Here in my zone 5b garden in the Southern Tier of New York, our drought has been moderated for on and off rain this last 10 days or so. The plants are eating - I mean drinking - it up.
Plants on strike have decided they should bloom.
Our first dahlia bloom, just in time for GBBD.
My lantana is finally blooming, after having been on strike much of the summer.
Even my variegated geranium seems happier.
Some other blooms are blooming in season, such as my sedum. And my garlic chives.
One of my cosmos. I have several, and they don't seem to have minded the drought.
Let's move to the shade garden.
Turtleheads.Heuchera. This one doesn't have colored leaves (the colored leaves just to its right is one of my brunneras) but do the bees love their late summer/early fall blooms. So did my hummingbird friend, who is definitely on her way south.
New to my shade garden is Zig Zag goldenrod, a wildflower we purchased from The Plantsmen Nursery near Ithaca, New York.
I couldn't resist this wet white impatien from earlier this week.
One final photo, a zinnia in our community garden. The way the weather is here, there is no guarantee we will have flowers for next GBBD. Let's hope the first frost holds off!
Join me and other participants in GBBD on October 15 for more beautiful flowers.
...thi year the deer ate my sedums to the ground!
ReplyDeleteDahlias. OMG I just love them! Carol C
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are always a delight
ReplyDeleteLove the flowers. I have some late bloomers too. Always welcome.
ReplyDeleteRain brings magic! My dahlias have been persnickety this year too.
ReplyDeleteDo you overwinter your geranium indoors? The dahlia is sure pretty.
ReplyDeleteThe one in the picture, yes. Not sure if I will this year, though.
DeleteI have gotten such a 'flower' education just being your friend, Alana! Thank you, both for your knowledge and for your ever-cheering pictures!
ReplyDeleteAwww....thank you! I learn a lot from you, too.
DeleteLovely blooms throughout. I particularly like the sedum.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Dorothy!
DeleteSo, you could have frost by October? Wow. I hope it holds off for you.
ReplyDeleteOutlying areas may get scattered frost tonight. Here in town, our projected low is 42 degrees.
DeleteA little rain makes all the difference!
ReplyDeleteI hope your frost holds off for a while.
All your late summer blooms are so beautiful and the Dahlia just takes my breath away! I need to grow some one of these years! It’s always a pleasure to visit your garden!
