Punner's Holiday

May 4th:  May the Fourth be With You.

May 5th   The Sinko De Mayo (old, bad joke about the Titanic having a secret cargo.  No, I won't spoil it for you.)

Two punner's holidays in a row.

Another one from earlier this year:  Pi Day (March 14).

Puns.  You hate them or you hate them.  We wince, we boo, and then we come back for more.

It isn't just us.   Humans all over the world enjoy word play. Too bad puns in one language don't usually translate well into other languages.

Except, maybe the Chinese.  Is it true that China has banned word play?

Seriously, I am married to a spouse who loves puns.  My guest photographer friend is an expert punner.  One of my cousins, an electrical engineer, loves punning.  People all around me, it seems, pun circles around me.    But, for some reason, my mind can not create them.

All I can do is appreciate the puns.  I found this website with some good ones.

One more for you.  The PUN-isher.

I wish I could write puns.

Do you?

  1. I don't write puns either, I wish I could. I just don't have a knack for it for some, it comes so naturally.

  2. Very punny! :-P My hubby accidentally made one yesterday. We were talking about my upcoming thumb surgery, discussing insurance coverage and the procedure - and he commented on something as "the rule of thumb..." {{roll eyes here}}

  4. I can't say that I write them, although I sometimes create them unintentionally! But I do love puns, even when I groan upon hearing one.

  5. Nah, puns annoy me. Yesterday I was in a math class and they had one of those pun worksheets. You know the ones? They ask a riddle. The kiddos then have a bunch of math problems to solve. This gives them the letters to fill in the answer.

    Yesterday's puns: Why are souvenirs like handcuffs? They are made for two wrists.
    How did the snowman embarrass himself on the hot day? He made a pool of himself.

  7. Sometimes I come up with a good one. But we have a rule... no puns at the table. And no singing either!
