Home - #MusicMovesMe

Don't we all long for home?  That which is familiar?  The place where we are safe?

We long for Home in music, too.  Every Monday, my blog, and the blogs of a number of other fine men and women becomes the Home for music - #MusicMovesMe, that is.

Who are the #MusicMovesMe bloggers?  We ride on a weekly train of music and we are headed by our head Engineer XmasDolly.  Her co-conductors are:  Callie of JAmerican Spice, (who right now is visiting when she can - please keep her in your thoughts ) and ♥Stacy of Stacy Uncorked♥   Also, co-conducting is  Cathy from Curious as a Cathy   And, (blushing) me.

For the next few months, we will also have honorary conductors.  Go to Xmas Dolly's site, get the complete list, and you can find out how you could guest conduct next year.

This week's theme is a FREEBIE - and I am featuring some songs about Home, a topic that has been on my mind a lot recently.

Home, as in Homeward Bound by one of my favorite duos, Simon and Garfunkel, from 1966.

Take Me Home, by Phil Collins, from 1985, from his third solo album, talks about someone who feels he is a prisoner in his own life - if only he could be taken home.

Our House, by Madness, from 1982.   This is such a fun video that I had to include this upbeat song (the house, I understand, was located in London.)

No blog post about home would be complete without John Denver's Take Me Home, Country Roads.  Home means so much to all of us.  Do any particular songs make you think of home?

In July, our Honorary Conductor will be (drum roll):  Michelle of Musings & Merriments.  So thank you for the opportunity to Conduct in June, and stay tuned for some rockin' July music.

See you then!

  1. Alana,

Great theme for "freebie" week! You brought some interesting "Home" songs to the dance floor with a mixture of oldies and new tunes. Have a pAwesome day, my friend!

  2. "The Green, Green Grass Of Home" springs to mind. "Home For The Holidays." The Crosby, Stills & Nash "Our House" that I'm not especially fond of. "Tobacco Road" ("But it's home, the only life I've ever known"). The Beatles' "Two Of Us" ("We're on our way home, we're going home"). I'll probably come up with more.

  3. Beautiful songs about home. Loved them all

  4. Loved all of these! Hadn't heard 'Our House' before, but totally fun. My go-do home song? 'Home' by Joe Diffie

  5. I like all the choices today. Great selection of Home. You picked my favorites, cannot come up with anything.

  6. It is interesting that so many of the songs about home are less than upbeat. Hmm...

  7. My homes shelters me, holds me close. But as I feel the love of my home around me, I wish that for all peoples. Then I hug my husband.

  8. I'm looking at your song pics and thinking that I would have chosen the exact same ones.

  9. Some great tunes about home. That is really thought provoking in what song reminds you of home. Wow! I cannot think of nary a one except the old songs. Mom would have Lawrence Welk playing or her stereo on with Glen Miller while my brother would have his record player on & he'd be playing Rebel Rouser (a drum song & he was a drummer). Great Post my friend and even greater tunes! Have a great week.

  10. Hi Alana,
I love all of your Home songs. The Madness one is really good and the video makes it all the better. I love me some John Denver! I have an odd fact that always pops into my head when I hear his name: way back when, when I was probably in my pre-teen days when his songs were getting alot of airplay, I guess he did an interview and was answering questions about where he lived. He had some amazing property in the mountains I think it was and he told the interviewer that it was super secluded and private and that in fact he mows his lawn in the nude. So now I'm stuck with that little Fun Fact that pops up every time someone says his name or I hear his music! haha
Some of my favorite Home songs are Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home", Springsteen's "My Hometown", "Our House" by CSN, and an oldie by Tom Jones, "Green Green Grass of Home" That one was popular when I was young and also one that I learned to play on the organ when I was taking lessons...

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again: I soooo miss my hometowm. Sometimes I really have yearnings to be back in Western New York. I had to take care of some business the other day on the phone and the company was in Sanborn (Niagara Falls suburb) and as soon as I heard the accent in the woman's voice, I so longed to be back there...
Home Sweet Home...I often wonder if I'm romanticizing it a bit. I'm sure it wouldn't be what it was to me when I was growing up there all those years ago. But I sure do miss it.

    Have a great week,
    Michele at Angels Bark

  11. Home is a great theme and you picked some great songs.

  12. All awesome song choices, Alana! Some are my favorites, and totally feel like 'home'. ;) Hope you're having a great weekend! :)
