Look at this photo.
This was taken at the end of October in a local park. Looks like a typical New York fall photo, does it not?
But, just a few yards away....
They were putting up lights for the park's annual Holiday display which starts November 19. These are hard to see but the one on the far right has a snowman.
It's a beautiful light display at night, when cars drive through the park for a fee.
Even the first picture has one of the lighting displays, just barely visible a little below the middle of the photo.

They’re putting up the holiday lights at Jones Beach, too (a ride through), but it’s less disconcerting because the beach looks the same in fall and winter.

ReplyDeleteTom has it about right with his comment! It seems to me that soon we'll start celebrating the end of year holidays in the middle of summer. I'm sorry but that is just wrong! My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving and there'll be no consideration of Christmas in this house until we've enjoyed our traditional Thanksgiving movies and turkey!
ReplyDeleteBut how intricate are the lights once they're up? When I see such major displays, I always wonder how long it took them to set it all up. It does not surprise me that something like that needs to start the set up in October.

ReplyDeleteWe've already had snow here in lower Michigan. If you don't get the lights out early, you may not get a decent day to do so.
